So, I decided to review last night with headphones to see if I rushed to judgment.
I didn’t.
It’s worse.

Went back and listened to the whole thing. No need to comment on Roth - everyone's opinion is fully formed at this point.

but this band he has absolutely NAILS Van Halen, especially the guitarist... who sounded absolutely HUGE. I loved hearing him play I'm The One.

Ugh, I hate site down shows at Club Casino. GA shows are so much better.
It depends on the band. The last show I saw there was "Beat" & it worked as a seated situation but yea, DLR should be GA if for nothing other than to sell 400 more tickets. I just don't get why he is playing there as I'm sure it will sell out quick. If he's going to take the time & effort to fire all this up for only one New England show, why wouldn't he play a bigger place?
At least he's coming here. So many bands just skip NH/MA/ME. The closest they come is Mohegan Sun which is a long shitty drive for me, especially the ride home.

Roth insists on going up and sing the songs in ways that has nothing to do with the originally recorded tunes, he managed NOT to do that on the 2007 tour, it's even easier for him, but he insists on singing like Perry Farrell

If not for Roth masterminding VH’s live show, steering Ed into being a guitar hero, his rich father’s money financing the early days of the band, giving the band the party personality, inventing Mike’s “drunk” bass solo, making the band’s music accessible to women etc etc then no one would have heard of Ed and Al Van Halen.

The VH brothers were shy music school nerds playing note perfect Cream covers before Roth taught them how to be rockstars. His contribution cannot be overstated.

You wouldn't know who Jim Dandy was if you didn't read in a magazine (or, more likely, on Metal Sludge) that Roth stole everything from him.

Also, what bizarre logic. If David Lee Roth was born in Afghanistan, he wouldn't have been a rock star. If he was a Thalidomide baby, he wouldn't have been a rock star. Where does this line of thinking end?
Bullshit. You don't know shit about what I listened to back in the old days.
I knew about Dandy way before he was in any magazines.
I bet before you were even born.

That’s cool, how much research have you done on it?

Suggest you start with this, it’s a good book.

It's like watching Joe Biden sing Van Halen songs. Same hair too.

For 2025, this is fine. I like the brothers singing backup. But Dave had 3-4 legit solo hits. Should've included at least one of those.

I get that his thing is "I'm the face of Van Halen from this point on" so doing all VH makes sense but he's also basically a lounge singer at this point. He's going to be playing casinos--does he think those audiences don't want to hear "Just a Gigolo"? That might be ALL they want to hear from Roth.

Dropping "Yankee Rose" I get, that song's all shouting. "Gigalo" seems like a no-brainer for what he's doing now. "California Girls" too. Old biddies love that shit.

If he's going to do the lounge act thing he should do his cover of Sinatra's "That's Life" from EEAS. That's about as lounge act as it gets.

IDK if he ever did it later, but he never played That's Life in his solo heyday. That would've been great.
