I'm in Utah. I will have to do those mods. It looks like the guitar will show up tomorrow. I hope it is a good one, I'ver never bought a guitar site unseen. Fingers crossed.

I think those ESP/LTD guitars are probably the best bang for the buck out there right now. I might get another one soon. They have one at a guitar shop here that's kind of a double-cut Les Paul design. It's calling my name.

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
They are probably awesome guitars, but Vox is not that known for guitars and P-90s are not that popular right now. It's like when GC blew out the Jackson DK2Ms for $269, those were some sweet axes for under half-price too. If you like the road less traveled, these are some great guitars - I'm sure anyone would be thrilled for that price.ElToro wrote:These are supposed to be really good too! $1000 list on sale for $330?!?!?

P-90's not that popular? News to me....
Those Vox's are pretty darn good guitars. Most need a little fret clean up but otherwise are pretty well put together and sound great. I like that they don't have a typically thick import finish on them.

P-90 s are great rock n roll/blues p/u's......as far as cheap guitars go, PRS has some great playing low end models....check em out. If anyone is looking for cheaper kickass amps....Blackstar! I have a 20watt head and 1-12 cab and it smokes.
It's a long way to the top, if you wanna rock'n'roll!
Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
Yeah, they're so popular that they're marked down 67% off of list to try and move them! More people like humbucking pickups than P-90s overall, and deep discounting a model like this indicates that they trotted them out and nobody cared, so they are cutting their losses. If you like 'em I'm sure they're a great deal though on closeout.wattage13 wrote:P-90's not that popular? News to me....

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
There was a long period hardly any manufacturer made a P-90 guitar, they were tough to find new. Nowadays near every manufacturer makes a guitar with them, I think it is more a matter of perspective.
Vox dropped the ball big time when they came out with their new line of guitars, their reps were not behind it at all and they had to make a lot of deals on the backend to get them to sell. The pickups in those Vox's aren't P-90's just so you know, they just kind of look like them, they are actually much different and are a pretty innovative design.

I have to say that after playing the LTD I purchased a few weeks ago I am really impressed with this guitar. It sounds great, has sustain for days and everything on it is quality. I've never owned a fixed bridge electric guitar before and I am loving it. so far.
I can't get over how much guitar I got for $350 vs. my Ibanez I bought in '96 that feels like a POS compared to this one. Other than the low strings being set a bit too low which I adjusted with a screwdriver in about 1 minute this thing played great as soon as I took it out of the box.

Are those Dillions decent? Haven't seen many around, but I've read they are not bad. Looking to pick up a junior type axe (p-90's) for our open G tunes.....

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
Dillions cost too much in my opinion. They are the same Chinese sourced stuff that erryone else has, but at about double the price.
...if you want a P90 junior, why not try this new brand, Gibson?

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
Those Gibsons are a good buy for a P-90 equipped guitar. I think Jim did pretty well with the stuff he bought for $1200 though. The Brian May copy, the DSL401 and the Hagstrom Swede are more than worth that alone, and the rest would be lagniappe!

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
I have a couple older Gibsons that are great,.....I have an issue shelling money out to them lately.......big quality control issues. I don't pay for names, i buy guitars that feel/sound good when I play 'em.Sleek wrote:Dillions cost too much in my opinion. Gibson Juniors are a value at $549!
I just figure at $300, this is a fair value... we'll see.

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
I paid $499 for my Jr. earlier this year. The black obeche fingerboard is a little odd but this smokes almost any import Jr's I've played. Best of the import Jr's is the PRS SE One. The finish is a little thicker than need be but they play and sound great. Agile used to make a decent one but the fretwire was so soft it kind of negated their value if you needed a re-fret in a year.

Nice axe, exactly what I was looking at, but the local stores want $800 up here(Canada)......like you said the PRS SE one is a nice alternative for $349 new...They play like butter.wattage13 wrote:I paid $499 for my Jr. earlier this year. I was told obeche is an African wood that is similar to maple. I wouldn't doubt it is baked.ElToro wrote:That obeche stuff, isn't it baked/carbonized basswood?
Well you know this is why there is Wiki - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triplochiton_scleroxylon
Doesn't appear to have anything to do with basswood but it makes a good sauna.

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
Gathering materials to build my own LP Jr. single-cut....
Already have the neck blank glued, clamped and rough-cut(3-piece neck like Gibby did in the 70's...very strong, and resonant as hell).....thinking either Spanish Cedar or Poplar for the body(no need for a highly-figured wood, will be either TV Yellow, black or perhaps oxblood...a friend is trying to talk me into binding the body and giving it a goldtop finish), mahogany body blanks are getting to be stupid-expensive.
Still have another Ebony fretboard blank....considering doing this one up with no fret markers, save for on the side....I keep coming back to the notion of stainless-steel frets.
The obligatory P90, of course(perusing GFS's selection).....the bridge is a bit of a quandry. I like the Pigtail wrap-bridge, but the Wilkinson wrap-tail looks very nice(the G&B section is adjustable in addition to the standard adj. screws on the post ends). The lead-mid-boost that Roman Rist offers on his Workhorse-seires Jr's has my attention as well(if I had the scratch I'd just simply commission one from him).
