Michael Schenkerfest? Anyone been to a show?

Post by WOLF » Sun Mar 11, 2018 11:59 am

Provided everyone gets into Canada, I’m probably going to go to the Montreal show on Monday.

Anyone seen a recent show? Setlist looks amazing, and it’s a great concept to have Barden/Bonnet/McAuley/White in tow!

Can't imagine this drawing more than 20-30 people per night. Hope Montreal is early on tour so your show isn't cancelled.

No kidding. They booked their Northern CA show on the same night as Y&T at the Fillmore with Frank Hannon. Guess where all the old heads are gonna be next Saturday? It's not gonna be at Schenkerfest.

They sold out Irving Plaza in New York on Saturday. Capacity 1025.

Montreal venue holds 900.

I went Friday night to the Boston show at Berkeley.
It was sold out and tickets were $150 To $100 .
It was well worth the money, awesome 3 hour show.
Everyone kicked ass , the only issue was Graham Bonnet half assed anything that wasn't his time in the band.
Mcauley was very good total pro.
I would highly recommend going to this show you will hear most of your favorite Shenker tunes.
Michael seems to really be happy and playing his ass off.

Just saw a fb ad for tix to his show here in L. A . On March 25th, for $25 a ticket, not bad.

I paid $65 Canadian for mine, and have no issue with that, given the 30 song, 3-hour career retrospective. I’ve been part of the scene in Montreal for 30 years and don’t remember Schenker ever playing here. Not sure what attendance will be on a Monday, but there is a lot of excitement from the local guitar geeks and UFO fans (who ironically made their first ever appearance here last year).

No shows near me so I made the trip out to Montreal for this and I wasn't disappointed. 3 hours of every Schenker era, plus one Scorpions song and a four song UFO encore.

All four singers sounded great with Bonnet and McAuley sounding especially fantastic. And Schenker can still play his ass off of course.

If this is coming to your city you have to go.

Worst club tour of the year and it’s only March
Jani Lane and Bret Michaels should form a band called "Nelson II"

Chicago has 1400 presale w/ cap @ 1500. Always been a big UFO town, but still those numbers are crushing!

I was there too and loved the show. The concept of this tour is amazing, and more bands should do it. Like you said - pretty much every Schenker song you would ever want to hear, and Michael is a maestro. I was also very impressed by Mann/Glen/McKenna, who despite being in their late 60’s demonstrated incredible chops.

The vocalists were all fantastic. Barden set the bar high, Bonnet was great, and McAuley took it to another level. I was not that excited about Doogie White, but he was up to the challenge and performed great as well.

Michael doing Rock Bottom was one of the best performances I’ve ever seen/heard.

Only disappointment was the crowd, but it was a blustery Monday night, and UFO/MSG literally have zero track record in this town. 500 or so was not horrible, but pales in comparison to other stops on the tour. Crowd was very loud and animated though; a lot of die hards.

If you are on the bubble - see this tour! 10/10 flying V’s!

Glad you guys have enjoyed it. I still can't figure out who's actually going. He literally sold no albums during his peak. I don't remember any real tours.

But, cool.

Going this Saturday... Had a question for people who did go. Is this one of these "a night of" with no other bands or is there an opening band?

No huge hits, true. Maybe Anytime? On the other hand, he had a bunch of diehards who followed his solo career and maybe all the way back to UFO. Bonnet has his fans too since Rainbow and Alcatrazz.

In Montreal a local opening act did a 30-35 minute set at 8:00, and Michael Schenker came on precisely at 9:00, playing a two and a half hour (maybe longer) set.

Not that I could see. They sell VIP meet and greets, so bring readily accessible in the venues, or outside, would defeat the purpose of that.

Not to mention the tour is doing a lot of back to back nights and long drives, so it’s play, eat and shower, on the bus, overnight drive.

I wouldn't worry about it though, it's not a big UFO town... 8)
