PRIEST vs. MAIDEN round 2

Post by NearlyNormal » Sat Jun 16, 2018 5:27 am

At 58% vs 42% British Steel killed Maiden's 1980 debut. But how did each band do the following year? I don't think it'll be ad easy for JP to take this one.

I can't imagine Killers not dominating this poll.

Uhh, Judas Priest's worst album versus Iron Maiden's best? Yeah, this is no contest.

(And yes, I'm serious, Point of Entry is worse that Rocka Rolla, Turbo, Demolition, etc.)

Was gonna say... this will be a landslide... and it already is. Killers all the way.

These polls don’t make a whole lot of sense

Why don’t you compare more apples to apples ?

You’re comparing a sophomore album against an album well into a bands career.

Tough one, two albums where I don't really like the production and the style they were going for, but they still nailed it with some of their best songs ever on there.

Priest had Heading Out, Desert Plains and Solar Angels.
Maiden had Murders in the Rue Morgue and Wrathchild.

All the above songs sound better live, but Priest wins this one. Barely.

I'm simply comparing them by year. It would be silly to compare Rocka Rolla to S/T or Sad Wings/Killers since they were released so many years apart.

Point is far from Priest's best, but as a Priestard, i still have to pick it.

I think there's a bunch of filler on Killers as well. Always liked Prodigal Son tho.

I actulally think Solar Angels is weird and overrated.

I actually don't "get" Solar Angels either. It's probably the only song on the album that I don't like.

Priest
Desert Plains and Solar Angels

Maiden
Prodigal Son
Di'anno's limited range started being obvious, and was beginning to hold the songs back ..

example:

vs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBVNpRg ... eorgeslash

Priest for the win
Raise your can of beer on high
And seal your fate forever
Our best years have past us by
The golden age of leather

Whut, you picked a version of Killers that was before it had been recorded, with unfinished lyrics. I'm sure Dianno has live versions wher it's sung a lot better.

I'm a Priest guy all the way.
But I had to go with Killers on this one.

The only way one of these polls is going to end up in Priest's favor for me is if we get to "Painkiller" vs. "No Prayer for the Dying."

I think the only one Maiden could win for me is 7th Son over Ram it Down.

By FAR. Hard as Iron and Blood Red Skies are better than anything on PoE.

Don't be so sure. We have a lot of Turbo Lovers here. And I think Defenders beat Powerslave, no?

Highlights:

"Heading Out To The Highway"
"Don't Go"
"Desert Plains"
"All The Way"

Highlights:

"The Ides Of March"
"Wrathchild"
"Murders In The Rue Morgue"
"Killers"

These Maiden tracks are stronger, but overall "Point Of Entry" is a better collection of songs.

Agreed. Unless you put up Piece of Mind (1983) against Defenders (1984). Not that Defenders is bad, more that PoM is Maiden's best ever. And it's still close.

Point of Entry. Used to hate it, like it a lot now. Killers is cool but a lot of filler on there that I don't care for...

PoE has its moments like "Headed Out to the Highway" and "Hot Rockin'", but Killers wins this one easily.

SFV vs. NOTB would be a good match up.

Point of Entry easily. I only like about 3 songs off Killers. I like the whole damn Point of Entry album.

POE is great. 9 out of 10 album for me. I would even take it over Screaming.
