Bands/Artists we can all (except LAGR) agree on
LAGlam exempt not because he's not a valued member of the community but because he cannot be contained and doesn't play by rules created by man nor God.
Cheap Trick, right? Everybody loves Cheap Trick.
It is my belief that EVERYBODY (as in, non-Sludge people) loves Queen.
What about Corrosion of Conformity? We all love C.O.C., right? The Pepper thread made me "Know what? Everyone loves C.O.C."
I think someone here once said they don't like Judas Priest. They might still be here so I can't say Judas Priest. Otherwise I would say Judas Priest.
Hopefully they got run over by a bus or thrown into a river.

I've seen them live five times and never once by choice. They were actually the first band I ever saw live, as they were opening for Alice Cooper, my first concert. They've always been that band in the way of the band I actually wanted to see, and as such, I unfairly dislike them.

I'd actually like to see Cheap Trick, they were going to play here in 1997, but cancelled the whole tour.

We all agree on Alice Cooper.

My first COC was Pepper era hit "Clean my Wounds." Strippers-- no, just people, like Pantera fans and whatnot-- I talked to at the time said it was sellout. They were Done with COC. None of those cats here?
I've known a few Cheap Trick diehards, but many on here seem to disown them. "I Want You to Want Me" (even the studio version) kinda solidified these guys for me. That and Fast Times...
Alice Cooper, same. Me? I don't love all his stuff, but I recognize his power as a significant artist.
What about LA Guns? Everyone loves at least one version, right? (except maybe bonoN...) No?
I mean, if the world can't agree that Rolling Stones and The Beatles are both great... where can we go?
Oh yeah. I'm thinking Saxon. Saxon? Accept? No?
Billy Squier!

The Cars and Hall and Oats seem to get tons of love around here.
Re: Bands/Artists we can all (except LAGR) agree on
I loathed Cheap Trick for years before I heard their music, based solely on photos of that stupid, gurning twat of a guitarist. I hate "zany" with a passion. Then I bought from a bargain bin that album with The Flame because I liked that song at the time (I was young, I didn't know any better), but played it maybe twice. Their 2 or 3 big hits are good but everything else I've heard (several albums-worth now) is just "meh". And Nielsen is still a punchable twat.Chip Z'Hoy wrote: ↑Mon Jul 31, 2023 9:14 pm LAGlam exempt not because he's not a valued member of the community but because he cannot be contained and doesn't play by rules created by man nor God.

I would post that Cheap Trick do nothing for me, but periplo were so cruel to me after I opined on Young Lust, that I think I’ll just stay out of it.

At the time, I would have agreed.Mikky_Five wrote: ↑Tue Aug 01, 2023 12:18 am My first COC was Pepper era hit "Clean my Wounds." Strippers-- no, just people, like Pantera fans and whatnot-- I talked to at the time said it was sellout. They were Done with COC. None of those cats here?
It was somewhat like Pantera, actually. A few albums in, they changed directions. They've mostly ignored the early stuff since. The difference was, early Pantera had no fans.
I haven't played much since Deliverance though, despite everything having great reviews.

I am a Cheap Trick diehard and proud of it. That doesn’t mean I love everything they do, but there’s a ton of great material.

If you think you don't like Cheap Trick check out the 97 self-titled Red Ant record. It's a bit of a step out of the norm for them. A little darker and heavier in spots.
The song,"If I Had a Child" is especially beautiful and meaningful to me as my daughter was born that year...

So I've never been impressed with Cheap Trick but also totally admit that I never gave them a real chance, do to my previously-stated bias. I listened to their greatest hits during my workout today and I like quite a bit of it. Nothing that really blows away their labelmates or anything, but it's decent rock n' roll.

I don't love Cheap Trick. Never purchased any of their stuff and have no strong feelings about them. I like Queen. Bought 3 of their albums. That is not love.

Another vote for I’ve never really been into Cheap Trick. Judas Priest neither. Sorry.

I write this as I am eating Swedish pancakes at Rick Nielsen's restaurant, Stockholm Inn, during a day off while passing through Rockford, Illinois.
This is how it's done in Sweden:
Lingonberries with meatballs, porridge or on toast.
Pancakes with strawberry or blueberry jam. Whipped cream optional.
Of course there are some hipsters who would put lingonberries in cheesecake or something, but that's just a little less Swedish than moose sushi.
