Any one familiar with the Australian band Cold Chisel ?

Discovered them in 2020 while reading Jonathan Cain’s book . Absolutely super band . It’s a pity they didn’t succeed in the US.

Jimmy Barnes has a fabulous solo catalog as does Ian Moss who is a fantastic guitar player . Don Walker has written some of the best lyrics ever .

Yep, Mossy has just released new music.
Sadly, I never saw them in their heyday, they weren’t “metal” enough for us.
Fuckwits we were.

Joe Ely toured Australia with Jimmy Barnes. Ely's gutiar player broke his hand, so his replacement was 13 year old Charlie Sexton.

I just know Jimmy Barnes from the project he did with Bob Daisley and Lee Kerslake called Living Loud. Always thought about exploring more from him. What would you recommend?

It’s a good record , not as solid as the 2018 one but still very good

Barnes did a short lived project with Steve morse , lee Kerslake and bob daisley . Released a killer album of Ozzy covers and original material . He is one of the best voices in rock

I am a big fan of Jimmy Barnes and Cold Chisel.you really can't go wrong with any of the Chisel live albums particularly Swing shift. Or any of the compilation cd sets that come with a bonus live disc . On the subject of Ian Mossi would really recommend the 30 th anniversary of his solo album Matchbook. That's probably my absolute favourite of his mainly written or cowriten by Don Walker. I got Ian to sign the disc when he played at the 100 club in London a couple of months back

I mainly know Jimmy Barnes from a bit of his solo stuff and his "Good Times" duet with INXS. Never listened to Cold Chisel.

I remember getting a Jimmy Barnes casette when I was about 19 and thought it sucked. Kind of interested in seeing if my opinion would be revised. Can you post his/their most quintessential song from youtube and i'll give it a chance?

You can start with the cold chisel records - East ,Circus Animals, No Plans, Perfect Crime

Jimmy Barnes’ for the working class man is his first real release in America . The title track was penned by Jonathan Cain .

His next record Freight Train heart is the best. The song ‘too much love ain’t enough ‘is the song Eddie and Sammy Hagar heard on the radio and that prompted Eddie to call Jimmy Barnes and ask him to front Van Halen. The whole album has Co-writes rights with Jonathan Cain and Neal Schon’s guitar work is all over the record . absolutely blistering album. Among his recent albums, You can check out my criminal record and Rage and Ruin.

Also, Jimmy Barnes did a duet with John Corabi called Empty Heart on the dead disease 2015 album Revolucion

Yes, spent 3 months in Australia in 1993. He's the King of Oz Rock . Great voice. Cold Chisel is a GREAT name for a heavy band, just slightly cooler than Tuff and Good Times is by FAR the best thing INXS ever did...

For Jimmy Barnes solo stuff you have to hear his live album Barnestorming. Every song is better than its original studio version. Jimmy is one of those guys who goes better and harder live.

Plus he had Johnny Diesel on guitar and backing vox on that tour which is neat.

No Second Prize

His 1990 album Two Fires is one of my favourites.

Cold Chisel apart from having a cool name is also full of excellent songs with great lyrics. Just grab the greatest hits and if you like those then go to East and Circus Animals. If you like deep cuts there then you can go to any other album.

Hey joey78, how the hell did u discover music when u were reading a book? Did the book just start sharting music out of its ass?

Was there musical sheet notes in the book and u just started reading the music and humming it?

How the hell do u discover new music while reading a fucking book?!

Flame Trees has always been my favourite Chisel song. Dunno why, it just gets me every time.
You should always remember you're unique, just like everyone else!
