Rival Sons
I keep hearing buzz about them, but haven't done a deep dive. Are they one of the best bands that came out in the 00s?
Not everybody is on MetalShit.com and Blabberface fuckin’ dot net! Who cares? There’s such a small amount of people that do that. - Blotz

Wolfgang Van Halen even hates them

They’re from my neck of the woods and around my age. Good singer, good players, some cool hooks and sounds. Kind of a fleshed out Black Keys with a better singer.
But like other rock bands from the last decade or so, overall it doesn’t grab me viscerally or bring anything new.

Really wanted to like them. They're alright overall but like SterileEyes said, nothing grabbed me. I do like 'All Over The Road' though. The video certainly helps.

Seen them open for about 5 bands the last 15 years and can’t tell you a single song apart from it sounds a lot like zeppelin. Good luck.

Re: Rival Sons
I've heard a handful of their tunes on Spotify that I didn't skip. They get a bit lost amongst all the other bands with "Sons" in their name. I prefer Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons personally...

Re: Rival Sons
Well, I’ll break from the pack and say that, yes, they are one of the best bands of the ‘10’s. Jay Buchanan is a fucking great singer and Scott Holiday rips on the guitar. Definitely 70’s influenced…some heavy Led Zep inspired stuff but not even in the same realm as GVF.
You can’t go wrong with Feral Roots, Great Western Valkyrie, Head Down or Pressure and Time.
Seeing them next week headlining on an off day from the Smashing Pumpkins tour and can’t wait.

Re: Rival Sons
Eddie Trunk put on his instagram that Rival Sons are "the best band out there".
They are an alright rock band, but I wouldn't ever call them the best band out there. I never seen a music radio host so fixated on just a few bands they are big marks for. The bands aren't even that great that he pushes constantly. UFO, The Struts, Winery Dogs, and he is majorly gay for Rival Sons. He doesn't "get" Ghost though. There just hasn't been a great Ghost song yet according to him.

Good live band.
From what I have heard, it doesn't translate to the recorded albums.

Yeah he's always raving about Rival Sons. I've really tried to get into them but their choruses are weak and nothing really stands out. Ghost on the other hand he doesn't "get", yet their sounds are catchy as hell.CANT_GET_ENUFF69 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 14, 2023 9:51 am Eddie Trunk put on his instagram that Rival Sons are "the best band out there".

Re: Rival Sons
GREAT band and im not into the hipster shit.
Miley is a SICK drummer, amazing to say the least! Scotts a MF on guitar too, I think he was in a somewhat popular 80s or 90's band, I forget.
They were initially called The Black Summer Crush and had Thomas from Oleander fronting the band, but I think he split and went on to becoming a martial arts instructor.
Love Rival Sons!!

Re: Rival Sons
If their song that’s in this Chevy commercial is any indication, they do a far better Zeppelin imitation than Greta Van Trustfund:

Re: Rival Sons
I would be more inclined to say they are “inspired” by Zeppelin, nowhere close to GVF, imo. Either way, better for sure.Ozzy Stradlin wrote: ↑Tue Aug 15, 2023 10:59 am If their song that’s in this Chevy commercial is any indication, they do a far better Zeppelin imitation than Greta Van Trustfund:
