Where do you rate Matthias Jabs?
Great fills, Great leads. Follow up to Uli Roth shouldn't be something that detracts from him.

Not a huge fan of the band or his playing but have to admit that the solos/riffage/tone throughout "RYLAH" is perfection.

Higher than Carlos Cavazo but lower than Warren DeMartini.

Re: Where do you rate Matthias Jabs?
He's in an overrated band that sucks ballsack, so his lead playing is entirely irrelevant.

You go get yourself a kick-ass stereo in a dedicated space, with a quality turntable and (preferably) a 100w min tube power-amp. Then you get (you can borrow mine) an ORG pressing of Blackout. You sit down in a comfy chair, right in the sweet-spot Maxell tape commercial style, and have someone drop the needle down on China White at roughly 110db. Let that wash over you and rattle you sphincter until the fade-out. After that and ONLY after that can you come back in here and still claim that they're 'overrated ballsack suckers'.HueyRamone wrote: ↑Tue Aug 15, 2023 1:09 pm He's in an overrated band that sucks ballsack, so his lead playing is entirely irrelevant.

Good rating. And pay the 3rd-rate Ramones/Crue imitator no mind.SchenkerFan wrote: ↑Tue Aug 15, 2023 11:41 am Higher than Carlos Cavazo but lower than Warren DeMartini.

Big fan. I think he's underrated. His fills and solos in those 80's pop-metal tunes were perfect. No One Like You in particular. 3rd or 4th best German guitarist...

What DemonFilth said. Matthias is underrated as f*ck. I was never a big Michael fan and couldn’t name an Uli song. Matthias was way better than most of his contemporaries. He’s in my top five just behind EVH and RR. He was way better than Lynch, DiMartini etc

Absolutely an underrated player. Great chops and very tasteful and melodic within that genre of music.

Re: Where do you rate Matthias Jabs?
Solid guitarist. Not the best of the era, but maybe close to DeMartini and Cavazo’s level.

Re: Where do you rate Matthias Jabs?
In 1984 I preferred Matthias over both DiMartini and Cavazo. Jake probably edged out Matthias at the time but Matthias surpassed him for good with me by ‘85. What I don’t get is why I thought George Lynch was so great. He edged out Matthias at the time. It must’ve been the cool hair and skull n bones guitar. Matthias blows Lynch away. He was a way better performer than George too. George looked like a scarecrow

Love his work on all the records, he fits in most excellent.
Has he ever recorded anything he's written? I looked quick and I didn't see his name on anything Scorps and there's no discography on his Wiki.

He'd probably be at the bottom of my top 50 guitarists list but he's still great and underrated!

Re: Where do you rate Matthias Jabs?
Songs that made it onto records:
"Don't Make No Promises (Your Body Can't Keep)".
"Tease Me Please Me"
"Money and Fame"
"Nightmare Avenue"
"Mysterious"
"To Be No. 1"
"Du bist so schmutzig"
"Deep and Dark"
"This Time"
"We Were Born to Fly"
"We Will Rise Again"
"Love Is War"
"The Cross"
"Slave Me"
"Dancing with the Moonlight"
"When the Truth Is a Lie"
"Hot and Cold"
So, not much, only one hit.
That being said, he is a very good guitar player, overshadowed by all of the other people who played guitar in Scorpions.

Scorpions went from who gives a shit in America to a great fucking band and huge in America once he joined!
