The definition of mailing it in.

It's funny how they are here in Pittsburgh tonight. The ridiculously priced tickets were not selling, so now the tickets that were priced at $150 are listed at $25.... lots of 'em.... the $249 floor seats are $59.

The $345 PIT tickets are now $149.

Why can't Axl, Slash and Duff come together and write a new song? They'll give us throwaway bullshit from an album nobody bought, but won't just give us an actual GnR song.
I concur.

And if they can’t get it together between the three of them, call in Izzy and see if he’s willing to help them out.

Doesn't do anything for me. I am beginning to think they have nothing left in the tank. It has been 32 years since they have released anything passing as good.

If you don't like Chinese Democracy, then yeah, you're not going to like this. Having said that, Appetite was released THIRTY SIX YEARS AGO. Do you ACTUALLY expect them to release an album that sounds like that?!?

Video is very well done, especially for an era where we get some shit videos from artists, and I've got zero problem with the song, but I also enjoy CD.

Yeah I thought the piano intro sounded like ass, too. I feel like this one lost out to Catcher in the Rye for a reason, but Slash sounds good at least.

Of course not, but they could at least release something new. Throwing a Slash solo on a Chinese Democracy throwaway is ridiculous, especially when your lead guitar player manages to release an album full of new material pretty much yearly, Duff writes tons of shit for other people, and I'm sure Axl could throw some lyrics and some lower, "It's So Easy" type vocals on any of it.

And Robin Finck's guitar can still be heard in parts, supposedly. So half-assed. Duff and Slash really are bending over backwards for the cash. How inspired are they gonna be when receiving already recorded tracks with band who wrote the stuff playing on it and then tinkering over it? Boy, can't imagine these tracks without Duff's touch. Really can't tell the difference if it's Slash or DJ Ashba playing on the majority of guitar on all the new stuff. Axl's turned Slash and Duff into just two more musicians out of dozens who've played over CD tracks over and over again. Unfortunately for them, they're starting at the bottom of the barrel.

At least they realized they weren't good enough to release on an album. Scary part is these were probably deemed the three best out tunes out of the bunch for first release.

Willing to bet several dollars that ~half the people here who say this song sucks and the Chinese Democracy album sucks have heard neither. Now I’ll brace for 8 or 9 “not meeeee” responses to this.

And another vote here for laughing at people who expect Appetite-esque material 36 years and a billion dollars later. The minute they do that is the same minute that these same people complain that they’re trying too hard.

Slash/Duff are smart enough to keep their mouths shut, keep the peace, to keep the gravy train going. As long as they are touring, they are raking in the dough. They open their mouths with the just the slightest bit of dissatisfaction, Axl cuts them off at the knees.

It's amazing that it's been SEVEN years now since they've reunited and they've done absolutely nothing but tour and play the same ole shit.

Agreed. They could release the original Rocket Queen tomorrow and it wouldn't receive one tenth the adulation that the Rocket Queen of 35 years ago gets. It's not a regular occurrence, but there have been instances of the classic bands we all love releasing damn solid material (or at least a song or two) and it is every bit as good as their classic stuff, but most fans won't acknowledge it.

For example, while some people like it I've seen a lot of people rip on Van Halen's "Me Wise Magic" when in my opinion it is one of their top 5 best songs. Had it came out in '81 people would think it was amazing. But since it was 20 years into their career it got a lukewarm response. I thought Crue's "Sick Love Song" was one of the best things they'd put out since the Girls, Girls, Girls album and I've never heard anybody even mention that song. It's every bit as good as anything on Feelgood.

Now regarding G'N'R and the CD detractors if There Was A Time or maybe even I.R.S. were on the Illusions they would be much more highly regarded.

So yes, it's true that the 80's bands new material usually isn't as good as their classic stuff when they were young and hungry (what a shocker), but sometimes it is and it will never get that recognition sadly. It is the fan's fault every bit as much, if not more so, as it is the bands. So I don't blame the bands for throwing their arms up and saying "why bother" and not putting as much effort into the newer stuff. He has never stated it, but if I were Axl I'd be pissed at the reception Chinese Democracy got. It's a really good album AND he basically did it alone, but all he heard was "where is Slash" as if the players he was using weren't every bit as capable of playing some great guitar as Saul Hudson was. Also, Slash has put out some really solid solo stuff that went unnoticed because Axl wasn't the singer. GODDAMN IT'S THE FANS THAT ARE THE PROBLEM...NOT THE ARTIST, THE FUCKING FANS MAN! WE MUST DO BETTER!

You wanna help? Here is what you do. When somebody drives by playing a song you like drop what you're doing and start yelling. It could be anything like "fuck ya!" or if you hear Electric Eye coming from somewhere start yelling "Priest, Priest, Priest." If you're in a club or a restaurant and a metal classic comes on put your goddamn fork down and celebrate. Stand up! Throw the horns! Leap into the fuckin' air man! LEAP INTO THE AIR! Show the people you love this music and its the best. Show the world you love rock n roll! Show them the spirit of rock n roll is alive. Make a scene. You won't get in trouble man. The other week I was at my local hick town casino and all of a sudden "I Wanna Be Somebody" came on. I lost my shit. I started yelling "W.A.S.P. !! YEAHHHH!! METAL!!" Sure people were looking, but guess what song is now played on a regular basis at that piece of shit rip-off joint? It's up to us to keep this music alive. If people think you're an ass for celebrating they probably think your an ass anyway. To hell with those people! You're no ass...they're the ass! No, it was because it came out during one of the top 5 RnR PR mismanagement disasters of all time. Waxls dissolution and 15-year de-evolution of GnR was also up there, btw. He gave us no reason to care anymore.

I'm a big fan of Slash's solo stuff. Most of it from Snakepit on through is fairly solid. I mean you can find something decent on most of the records. After comparing that to stuff Axl wrote without Slash I'm more convinced than ever that Slash is really Guns N Roses. I'd rather see Slash with Adler's solo band than Axl and Scabs...

Axl cant sing anymore, and at the end of day Slash and Duff are essentially hired guns. Slash has proven he's still capable of creating cool music, but pAxil and his handlers are not going to relinquish any of the creative control. So yeah, all we are going to get is throwaway garbage with a Slash solo overdub.

Top 5 is a bold statement but yeah I take your point and agree with everything you wrote, especially the part about fans often being the problem.

I think “Prostitute” is a Top 10 GN’R song. To the extent people even give the song a chance it gets written off as ‘bloated’ as if GN’R aren’t famous in large part for epic, densely recorded material.

A lot of people just seem to enjoy complaining and not liking things for its own sake.

As I said earlier, those vocals for Perhaps were done 10 years after Use Your Illusions and you can already hear how his voice had changed. And that was 23 fucking years ago! You think he can sing better in 2023? It ain't happening. We'll keep getting unreleased demos with vocals from the year 2000, they'll keep touring, and the gravy train rolls on. The end.

Spoiler: Here's Atlas Shrugged, another outtake from Chinese Democracy with vocals from 1999. Guaranteed this will have Slash and Duff added to it and released too.

If you're in a club or a restaurant and a metal classic comes on put your goddamn fork down and celebrate. Did you see Britney Spears pole dancing a few days ago?
that’s a dump truck of bs

You don't need to eat dogshit to know how awful it is.

I don't think there's a person on this board who didn't give Chinese Democracy a chance.

And I'm pretty sure everybody on this thread clicked on the "Perhaps" link.

Regardless, it's all lightning in a bottle. Guns n' Roses will never sound like Appetite. KISS will never sound like their classic albums - with or without Ace and Peter around. You can resurrect the dead members of the Beatles and get them all together and it will never sound like Revolver or Rubber Soul.

I think people here get annoyed because Axl wasted some of his prime years tinkering around in the studio like Howard Hughes while Slash and Duff hung out by Scott Weiland's pool, waiting for somebody else to tell them what to do.

Appetite will always be the "A" album. But they could've had some cool "B" albums in the '90s and beyond. By the time Axl, Slash and Duff got it together, it was too late. Now, they're trying to make cheesecake out of chicken shit with outtakes from the "D" album. We've all heard it. Like it or not, it is what it is.
