Rate Living Colour's Stain (Poll)

Post by BDG135 »

This is an underappreciated 90s album. How would you rate it?

the best of the first three, I would say. "Time's Up" comes really close to being at the top of the list, though.

that breakdown in "This Little Pig" is GLORIOUS.

"Vivid" definitely didn't suck, but they kept getting better with each album.

for those first three albums, anyway.

It's probably a 3 but I voted 4 to help with my white guilt.

Vivid was really good. The second album was completely forgettable. Never listened after that.

Yes. In a non-Sludge world, Vivid was their best. Times Up had some good cuts on it, but it suffered from 75-minute CD syndrome (aka too much filler), as did a lot of records around that time. Stain was a vain attempt at going grunge, which is apparently why Sludge thinks it's the 2nd coming of LZ IV.

He's such a monster player. His work on Auslander is worth the price of admission alone.

I'm really not sure how a previous poster said this was an attempt to go grunge. The band has done what they wanted to from day one. Wimbish just added an extra layer.

Also "Nothingness," "This Little Pig," "Postman," "Auslander." I love the whole album.

"Leave It Alone" has the best older LC feel IMO.

3 or 4. It was a big jump up from their 2nd album, which just didn't work for me. And I liked the more "outside" material like Nothingness. But I also thought they really didn't nail that 3-piece rock sound that they did so well on the first album. Was probably wanting at least a little more of that. Their first album was a real moment in time.

Didn’t like Stain at all. Maybe I’ll give it another listen. It’s been many years since I last heard it.

Time’s Up is their best! Saw them on that tour with Kings X opening. Great show!!

Used to listen to Stain a lot when it was released. Time's Up is probably a better overall album than Vivid, but didn't have anything close to the singles of Cult Of Personality, Glamour Boys, or Open Letter. Stain is definitely more progressive and heavy than the first two. Go Away is probably Vernon's heaviest.
