Band Practice!

Post by GreatWhiteSnake »

So this dude I know asked me to be a backup guitarist for his band when his main guy can't be there. Going to my first rehearsal in 16 years tonight! Trippy! It's not my bag at all. Latin pop stuff. He's online as Edu Bega. Good singer and plays Uke. How great is band practice? Just something about knowing you have band practice makes life a little better doesn't it? Got any cool band practice stories? Do tell...

Oh man, you're gonna love this gig. Latin music always draws beautiful ladies that want to come dance. I checked him out, very reminiscent of Prince Royce..... gonna be a lot of chicks there. 8)

Just got back. All great dudes. Bass player is a local. Drummer is from Brazil. Enjoyed how they worked in the studio. No unnecessary BS but still friendly banter. Progress was made...

I play with five bands, so it's sometimes work to try to squeeze them all into calender. I try to have the weekends free.

Do you have to roadie if you're not playing?

So, this is a somewhat professional band and they're asking you to learn the songs, rehearse with them, and be ready on a moments notice for free? I guess you're no Steve Brown. Do the other members have back-up's? Maybe you should form a rival band with them called, "The Back-up's".

Pretty much. Bass and keys would be replaced by trax if needed. He has a reliable drummer and somewhat flaky but talented guitar player. Besides I've nothing better to do...

And like you said, it's nice to be playing again. A friend of mine (who is also 50) told me he jammed with a few guys a few weeks ago and how cool it was. So my band practice story is back in my college band we rented a warehouse and often played with the door open and one night our singer decided to wind up and throw his mic stand as far as he could and found the back window of my car. Ya', explain that to your insurance company.

Fucking singers man! I should add Eduin did offer to pay me for my time including me basically just meeting the guys and going thru the songs last night. I told him not to worry unless I play live with them. He's an IT Engineer at the bank I work for and a prince of a guy. I got the "gig" based on my sparkling personality as much as any actual talent...

No, that band broke up in 2008.
I got tired of sitting in my studio writing songs while everyone else was out partying, golfing and fishing.
This is also when I got full custody of my son, and allowed me to spend much more time with him.

Thank you for the compliment.

VVV, which guy are you? Ibanez lead guitar guy, bald rhythm Les Paul guy or Scott Weiland-ish singer guy?

I’m assuming you’re Ibanez lead guitar guy given your hilarious Sludge screen name. Yes?

A few years ago Gaz reached out to Stonebreed Carlos Dude to do a Sludge project and Carlos never responded. This is better than anything Carlos has done. I'll pitch in some GF $$$ to make that happen.

Gaz, I have a rock station and our :60's are like $10 in prime. Let's edit a few of your hooks together and run a schedule. You guys can own Melbourne for a few hundred bucks! Heck, let's go the Carlos Stonebreed Dude route and Go Fund it. "Help Gaz Get Played on the Radio".
