Were the Stones ever as huge as Metallica are today ?

Post by joey78 »

Been on a stones kick lately . Been watching a lot of Stones live videos . Such an amazing band . Each of them with a distinct personality who brought something unique to the table.

Looking at the The stage setup , production , etc… it’s like they were almost as huge as Metallica are today .

You kinda have a point...
Metallica can set up a stage literally anywhere in the world that has a population and everyone there will attend..

But so can the Stones...

It would be interesting to have a real accurate competition for all the marbles though.. even though the Stones burned out most of theirs.. but personally I think the Stones would win if only for their style of music is more able to cross over the genres while Metallica only have the metal fans. But still it'd be close

Almost? Have a look at the boxscores from the Steel Wheels tour.

I'm pretty sure they're equally huge right now.

Let's ask the parents of today's Metallica fans.

Were Gibson and Fender guitars ever as popular as pointy ones with skulls on them?

I asked my 22 yo son who is not a rock fan which band the average man on the street would be familiar with. He answered it would be close but The Stones. Then he wondered how any monthly listeners each band had on Spotify which he predicted would be close. Metallica 26 million, Stones 27.8 million...

I think they're broad enough where enough people would come to any stadium/venue any time. There's more people now than ever.. and if you slap those logos on anything, people will buy that shit.

Metallica parlayed their thrash street cred into being top of the bro dogshit rock like creed/nickleback.

Metallica has enter sandman- that’s the only song everyone knows.
Stones have 20x that

The stones logo alone beats Metallica

You're a failure as a father. Shame on you.

If I go to the nearest crack den, you best believe I will find my boy rocking the fuck out.
He's a rock fan through and through.

Not a fan of The Stones. And love all eras of Metallica, but this is correct.

To compare the 2 is ludicrous
