Bad English - Price Of Love Official Video

Post by ParaDime77 »

Third single off of the S/T album. I completely forgot about this song, As there was so much other ballads on the scene at that time. This is more in the Michael Bolton territory. When I hear the intro, I instantly think about how ungodly creative Jonathan Cain is when it comes to creating memorable, yet simplistic opening piano licks. Asshole or not, he’s one of the best.

What happened with their 2nd album? I don't know why Grunge would have had an effect on them since they're mostly pop.

Yeah, but “When I See You Smile” is still the better of the two ballads.

They basically broke up as they were recording it, so there wasn't much promotion for it. This was the single and I don't recall ever hearing the song on the radio or seeing the video on MTV: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=appgDoruae0

Great song. Perfect for the time. Went top-5, but hasn't been overexposed since then, so it carries some nostalgia value that's rare to find in other worn-out '80s hits.

The first Bad English album is full of catchy songs. It was actually my dad's favorite album for a while. He played it over and over again in the car. I bought him the second album for his birthday or something. I think he played it once.

John Waite on any ballad is going to deliver.

How was "Heaven Is A 4-Letter Word" not a bigger hit? Best song on the album.

The album had a handful of decent ballads. John Waite could always be counted on to deliver a good-to-great love song.

Backlash basically sounds like a band falling apart as it plays. The tunes are retreads of everything that worked on the first album, even down to the Diane Warren-assisted ballad.
Some catchy riffs, and okay songs. But one can tell the tank was running out of gas quickly.

According to Ricky Phillips, they decided to split (mostly because Jonathan and John wouldn't stop fighting) when the record was being mixed. They had to be cajoled into making a music video for "Straight To The Heart".
You can listen to my two albums here.... Sludge away, fuckers!

Bad English sucked ass, made bands like Trixter and Nelson seem "heavy" in comparison. Both albums are complete filler, only decent song is "So This Is Eden" from the 2nd CD.

Bad English was so overrated, Hardline was the much better Neil Schon side project.

Now you're talking! Love that record! Singer Johnny Gioeli still records and tours under that name but the 1 record they did with Neal (Double Eclipse) is the only classic album they released. No hits though!

Bad English at least had When I See You Smile that got a ton or airplay. It's a cheesy Dianne Warren ballad. I don't love it but it's catchy as hell and certainly did the trick for the band.
