It's like 3 hours and 30 minutes of various takes, instrumentals, and demos. The files are sort of labeled half-assed but whatever. The quality is better than anything out there. Supposedly these were done in 2004 for a box set and then band decided against it at the time since they were in the middle of doing a reunion with Sammy and putting out a bunch of Dave stuff was bad timing. Then I guess they just forgot about it. The 1977 demos all seem to be remixed, and there's outtakes from every album. There's even a take of Eruption with just the room mics, and a great instrumental called Red Zone, which was previously known as Act Like It Hurts.
Get it while you can!

Thanks! Great quality indeed! I guess the Ted Templeman demos are what was intended for the box set and therefore remixed in 2004 - can't see them releasing three discs of random demos and outtakes as a box set.

Re: 74 Unreleased Van Halen Outtakes leaked out!
More info on what came out from the Van Halen forum:
"The guy that sent them to me got them from a person that worked on the aborted remasters project from around 2005. It was not Brian Kehew, but another person that worked on the project. This isn't a calculated thing to come out right now...these things have been traded privately for years, but the cat just got out of the bag now.
The "room mic" track of "Eruption" with the lead in to "You Really Got Me" is among these tracks and many of you are familiar with that because Brian Kehew shared it on his Sunset Sound YouTube podcast interview several years back."
"The box set of Dave stuff was mixed in 2004 and scheduled for release around that time (maybe into 2005). And CDs were sent to the band members...and the brothers cancelled it because they thought to release something with a focus on the Dave years was bad timing since they were in the midst of a reunion with Sammy.
And then, after taking the money from the 2004 tour, they went back to their hole and didn't come out for three years.
Eddie clearly didn't even remember this happening in 2004. Kehew swore up and down that the band got the CDs (4 of them) with outtakes and sent word back that they didn't want to release this stuff right now.
Then, in 2015, Eddie does an interview saying he wanted to release the '77 Demos as a new archive release but that the master tapes were lost...so they first tried to release one of the early club shows but couldn't get them sounding good enough and then finally settled on a new concert (letting Dave pick Tokyo). Eddie was wrong. Yes, it's true: the master mixes of the '77 Demos were long lost. But, the multitracks existed and new mixes (the ones we've been hearing these last few days) had already been made in 2004. Eddie never said he didn't want them released. It's just that by 2015, they forgot they had good new versions.
This is how dysfunctional and disorganized this band is/was."

There's not an emoji for head exploding but if there was I would be posting that! This is awesome. Between Donington coming out last month and now this, it's the most activity Van Halen has had in a decade. Oddly enough, today is the day of the last Van Halen show on October 4th, 2015. Good timing.
Thank you Jackie!

Thats right.. Oct 4th.. i didn't even think of that til you just said that. I photographed them exactly one month earlier on Sept 4th here in Detroit area..I tried to photograph them going back to 2007 and again in 2012.. NO LUCK.. Finally some luck came my way in 2015.. Will be forever grateful for that opportunity...little did i know it would be my only and last time to shoot them..VinceVanLane wrote: ↑Wed Oct 04, 2023 3:02 pm There's not an emoji for head exploding but if there was I would be posting that!
