Nothing about that band appeals to me.

They seem to me like an even less cool DOKKEN, if that were possible.

Am I lucky?

They're more prog and experimental than Dokken.

Are they talked about in terms of 80s bands beloved on here in the same way as say... Tesla? Just happened to get sucked up in to the 80s hair rock narrative?

They're one of my favorite bands. Many put Operation: Mindcrime as one of the top 80s Hard Rock albums.

I'll give it a listen! Don't mean to disparage anyone's favourite bands. I love Danger Danger, after all.

Lets see what I've been missing.

Queensryche up to and including Empire are great.

Operation Mindcrime is a brilliant album. And Rage for Order isn't too far behind.

First Queensryche song I heard was "I don't believe in love" which is one of their more commercial songs.

I do find it hard to believe you post on an 80's hair metal message board, and never heard Silent Lucidity

When I was in college in ~’05 I did warehouse work for the local school district on summer vacation. The foreman dude must’ve weighed 300 lbs, sat at a computer in a concrete warehouse all day…on a Queensryche message board. He was beyond obsessed.

…I think Jet City Woman and I Don’t Believe In Love are cool songs. The rest that I’ve heard never grabbed me I guess.

Yeah if yiu were alive in 91, you hadda work to avoid hearing/seeing Silent Stupidity on the radio/MTV.
ijwthstd wrote: obviously you take this way too seriously and were deeply affected by what transpired in the early 1990's and hopefully you are discussing these issues with a therapist in addition to other fans on music message boards.

On the other hand, that song doesn't say much about Queensryche. They had two somewhat similar DeGarmo ballads on Promised Land but they were the weakest songs on that album. The combination of Silent Lucidity being their big hit, the two crappy follow-up ballads and HITNF says DeGarmo ruined the band....

The Empire CD is more than enough Queensryche for me, and IMO their best song was left off the album and used for the Ford Fairlane soundtrack.

Everything up to & including Empire is excellent. Everything from Promised Land to Dedicated to Chaos, I like a lot of it but there are low points, for sure. Everything after the split is fairly solid. Toddryche is older school QR sounding with tons of Michael Wilton guitar, which is always excellent. Vestryche continues to evolve, but it's still Queensryche sounding. The 3 concept records that he did as "Operation Mindcrime" were quality.

Mindcrime and Empire are enough for me. As much as I like those 2 albums I just can't get into anything else that I've heard from the band.
