I suppose WASP were the first 80s hair band to release a live album. I'm not aware of any other well-known hair band at the time putting out a live album, though that would become a bit more prevalent in later years (e.g. Swallow This Live, Live: Entertainment or Death, etc.). Yes, I'm not counting Judas Priest's Unleashed in the East or Scorpions' Tokyo Tapes; different era, different sound.

Funny, "The Manimal" popped into my head this morning when I got out of bed, and I had looked online earlier when I was trying to remember what album it came from. This was before I came across this thread and this news. :(

Think I heard someone post/say long ago that Riley's drums are the only "live" part of that album.

We know very well about his feud with Tracii and the infamous "2 LA Guns" situation.... I'm afraid they never settled their problems. Hopefully Phil and the rest of the guys will have something nice to say about him.

He was VERY frail looking. Was he just super skinny or did he always have health issues?

Met him at meet & greets a couple times and he was super friendly and kind. Loved his voice. :)

And of course...great fucking drummer! Solid as a rock. And always wore black!

Very sad to hear about this. Would've been nice to see him one more time but I'm happy to say I must've seen LA Guns at least 20 times. Probably with 20 different lineups! :) RIP Steve Riley!

Same. What happened to him?

Edit: Just saw it was a really bad case of pneumonia according to Riley's LAG page on FB. I know he kind of looked like death in his later years, but I didn't think he was that close to death...RIP

According to a post on the band’s FB page, he’s been hospitalized with pneumonia for several weeks now. Not sure if that was Covid-related or not though. It really sucks either way. He was too young to go. I haven’t seen him since he and Snug split ways, but Steve was always good to me when I saw him and always greeted me with a big hug. Rest in Peace!

from what I could tell from that statement, it seemed it was due to the fact that Riley was a private person and mostly kept to himself.

the headline definitely makes it sound worse than it is.

Phil released the following statement via his personal Facebook page: "Very shocked to hear about Steve Riley's passing today. He was a good guy and an excellent drummer. We toured the world together many times and countless adventures both good and bad. Unfortunately we were never truly friends in 30 years I never once visited his house and apart from band stuff we never hung out or went to dinner together. I think he valued his privacy and kept work and family very much separate.

Definitely not as bad as the headlines. A rather nice statement all things considered
