Anyone here, never own a Beatles album?

The one that started it all. Spreading gossip and insults since 1998.

I do not like the early stuff. Now when they got on drugs they became awesome IMO. Sgt Pepper on is amazing. That I wanna hold your hand shit sucks!

All you really need is the "blue album"

Wiseacre wrote: Tue Oct 31, 2023 5:06 pm It's all about context. That's why everyone shit themselves when Dylan came along. The Beatles followed suit and there wasn't a lot of "hand holding" after that. Pop music wasn't really trying to be deep in the early '60s which is when most of "those" songs were recorded. There were/are plenty of bands who wrote/write dumber shit than the Beatles ever did. Hell, there are songs on Rush's debut with worse lyrics.
Yeah, but Dylan has the opposite problem - excellent lyrics, atrocious vocals.

Growing up the charts here (UK) were infested with turgid shit like Ebony and Ivory, Frog Chorus, Mull of Kintyre, Imagine, Traveling Wilburys stuff, all of which I loathed and still do. Every Beatles album, even their highly rated ones, has at least a couple of my least favourite songs of all time - Yellow Submarine, Ob La Di Ob La Da, Octopus' Garden, Hey Jude, Give Peace A Chance, I just can't abide hearing so many of their songs ever again.

Pretty much my sentiments as well. Although I believe I'm a bit younger than you.

I have Sgt Peppers (given to me) and it's great. Also the red and blue greatest hits.

All you need.

I never got big into the early stuff, but I love Revolver through Let it Be and have all those on disc. Bought them in the 90’s🤘

Never owned a Beatles album. I’m a fan but not hardcore, their music is everywhere, and my dad had all the vinyls so just never had a need to buy their stuff.

I like all eras but I'm more of an early stuff fan. Yep, tie>mane in this case.
Give me "Please, Please Me" and "A Hard day's night" (the albums) and I'll listen to the latter stuff I I have time.

Never purchased one and never will. I acknowledge their talent level as their is definitive genius arrangements. It never clicked for me at all.

When i was young they were to wimpy to listen to, and now... well, there are good songs, but I dont hear the "genius" that everyone bestows on them.
Exactly how I feel. I just don’t get why people bow at their alter.

The red GH - is that the "1" album from 2000? If so I agree.
I have the Live at Hollywood Bowl too just for fun. But it really isn't essential.
And the double cd bootleg "Banzai" (Paris 1965/Stockholm 1963) is an even better live experience but it's not easy to find.
