Booked at Welcome to Rockville. Sounds like Paul Bostaph will be drumming, not sure who else will be involved.

I think he's counting on the Slayer crowd getting needy to hear Slayer and him playing some Slayer :?

It’s weird seeing his name way down a bill like that. You can tell he is not at all happy about Slayer ending and having to do this.

Talked to someone at a party a few months ago who works on the instrument side of things and he was pretty darn insistent that Slayer are gonna pull a Motley Crue in the next few years. Taken with a grain of salt but obviously these things happen all the time and nothing would surprise me since it’s pretty clear that only one guy is holding out here.

I'm pretty sure Slayer is done done. Tom isn't interested in playing anymore, Jeff is dead, and Dave burned the bridges with Kerry and Tom. If Tom was willing to let Kerry form a new band, possibly with Paul, Gary and a singer/bassist to be mentioned, and just sit home and collect a check, I think we would have seen it by now, which is why Kerry is trying to go out on his own.

why is that weird? Even at Slayer’s most popular period…they were strictly a theater band. The only sold out arenas when they announced their retirement.

Will Kerry King’s solo project be bigger than Steve Harris’ or KK Downing’s? I doubt it.
He’ll be playing festivals since his name won’t sell any tickets alone.
Plenty of festival bands around with a former member from a well known band playing festivals and some club shows in between to be able to pay for the hotels instead of taking day offs.

You know how it works. Four beers in at a festival you decide to check out a couple of songs with the band that includes the former member of one of your favourite bands…

True, but in a festival like this Slayer would be one of the main acts. They were much bigger than Anthrax at least for the last 20 years, and Anthrac is third on the main stage.
King is relatively young in terms of how things are for metal bands now, I can understand him being frustrated when Slayer is basically the only 80s thrash that has retired. All the rest of the big 4 plus Exodus, Testament, Overkill, etc are still touring. Same for the German bands..

The best chance for King is probably for Tom to die. Then he gets to own the name and reform Slayer a la Pantera now a days. He can sell it as a tribute to Jeff and Tom, and maybe he might be willing to throw some cash to Lombardo to make it more credible..

Best thing King can do for this project is make peace with Lombardo. Fans can accept Gary becuase Jeff is dead, but Dave got hosed for asking legit questions about money. Him reuniting with King would help the project out.

Or just friggin retire, I mean he must be as rich as Tom. If it’s not Slayer just let it go.

Problem was Dave was out the band, what over 15 years, how does he expect to be made an equal when the other guys kept it going. But granted he’s the only virtuoso in the band!

Agreed with all that. At least then, you've got half the classic lineup, and then if you get Gary, you've got someone who's been on stage with them for 8 years.

Wouldn't get the name, but would be able to negotiate a deal with Tom's estate, ala the Abbott brothers, and would give more legitimacy to going out without him.

Also, why does Slayer shit always have to get so morbid? :D

Just call it Kerry King's Slayer. Gary Holt already confirmed his involvement. It's just going to be Slayer without Tom... and who gives a shit about the vocals in Slayer?

Correction: Lombardo is the only person in the band who can even play his instrument. Everyone else is a hack, particularly King, who couldn’t write a solo in key if his life depended on it.

I’d think Kerry has more money than Tom because of writing credits. I don’t think Dave ever expected to be an equal partner when he came back but I remember reading that after one of the years of heavy touring in the 2000s his take-home was something like $60k(!)

I don’t think he could get away with it, but I bet Kerry wishes he could do with Slayer what Dino just pulled off with Fear Factory where you replace the guy who no longer wants to be there with someone who does and the fans accept it. Slayer fans are obviously way too unforgiving for that.

I never got Slayer... ever... not even for a minute.

Absolutely No songs... or at least nothing that is discernible from noise.

Metallica stands out, head and tales above those other 3... and it's why they are as big as they are.

IMO, Slayer is the bottom of those 4... by a mile and I don't care for Anthrax or Megadeth either.

Kerry King... I have casually been around him a few times, and every time he seemed angry, miserable and def has short man's complex.

While they didn't dress like the Vinnie Vincent Invasion, much-like Pantera, Slayer too wore Zebra striped clothes, stretchy black Spandex pants, wrist bands, studs, and scarfs around their neck, legs and the rest... just like Def Leppard, Motley Crue and Ratt.

All had goofy long hair too...

Their drummer is the GOAT of metal.

Kerry was an average songwriter but Hahnemann wrote some tremendous songs.

The 'Angel of Death' scream is second only to the 'Won't Get Fooled Again' scream on the iconic scream.

Kerry is not an exceptional lead player but he was a very good rhythm player. And he could manage a good lead from time to time, like his guest solo for 'Witchkrieg.'

But like everything else, it's subjective.

I get what you said earlier about Tom being the holdout and was just saying I wouldn’t be surprised if money eventually talked there, but I really don’t know about this. Slayer fans are brutal. Replacing a guy who died is one thing, replacing the main guy who retired just to keep the brand going is another.

If Gary Holt is on board, I'm definitely interested in seeing what they come up with, I guess it especially depends on the singer they come up with. I just hope Gary Holt doesn't dumb-down his solos like he did on Repentless. He's a phenomenal lead player and I don't want to hear Gary-Lite this time.

So who's going to sing? I've heard a rumour about Phil Anselmo, but for some reason I don't see it happening, he's got too much baggage and his voice is kinda shot. Dan Nelson?! Nah, too risky, he might shit on your back. Probably some unknown "talent"...

KK's Slayer is definitely a funny name!

Eh. The fans are all getting older. It's been long enough that they prolly want want kind of Slayer over no Slayer. Pantera proved no one minds too much if vital players are replaced. Only difference is the frontman is the hardest to replace.
Agree that is MUST be called "KK's Slayer"!!!

Nah, that would be too Exodusy (3/5ths of the Shovel-Headed Kill Machine lineup), and KK wouldn't want another bald tough guy in the band, esp. one that's bigger than him.

He should get Pete Helmkamp from Angelcorpse. The guy plays bass at the same time, has a great "voice" and writes lyrics. Oh wait, he's bald too, nevermind... But a bass playing singer is a must, they won't be able to afford a fifth guy.
