I saw George Lynch/Lynch Mob live last night
Advertised as “The Rise of the Decades” Tour.
$10 for a ticket in a really nice theater that seats about 2K. No balcony seats were on sale, so it was ground floor only which did make it look pretty crowded up front and about halfway up the floor. Maybe 500 or so.
Doors were advertised at being open at 7pm, which was when I walked in to the opening band (AON) already playing. Never heard of them, looked like younger guys. Sounded like melodic metal with some White Lion meets RATM riffs blended in on a few songs. They were fine. Covered a nice version of Live Wire.
I’ve never seen this happen though, after playing for about an hour the singer left the stage while the crew changed some things around and then within maybe 10min, a guy named Terry Ilous come onstage with the exact same band as before and they magically become Terry Ilous and XYZ. Didn’t change out anything but the singer. Drums still had the AON logo on them but the background (electronic screen) said XYZ and played MTV 80’s era videos by the band which I’m pretty sure was just the singer.
Rocky start as Terry came out and they forgot to put the microphone stand back up so he had to walk around while the band played the intro to whatever song longer. I’m not familiar with him but he had a good stage presence, knew how to work the crowd. Very short compared to the younger band. It was hard to understand his accent at times. He/XYZ was on stage about 35min. Something else I’ve never seen, the middle act playing a shorter set than the opener.
10min later (9pm) and George enters the stage playing guitar by himself. Eventually the band joins and when his singer starts to sing, his mic doesn’t work. It’s kind of a comedy of errors with whoever is was doing sound. Several Lynch Mob tunes and then Terry comes back out and they do some Dokken songs. By 1030, I was already back at home.
Overall - This type of venue (an old historic theater) was way too big, this probably would’ve been better suited for a club or bigger bar - but they may have wanted a larger venue for the light show that was put on, which was pretty cool.

The lead singer of AON is the current lead singer of Great White. Terry Illous is an ex lead singer of Great White.

Thank you. Didn’t know that. The AON singer could belt out the high notes for sure.Vince Neil Eats wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2024 9:05 am The lead singer of AON is the current lead singer of Great White. Terry Illous is an ex lead singer of Great White.
Adding “Great White” in the tour name/lineup might’ve helped to be honest. I’m not sure what “Rise of the Decades” was really intending to mean. I’d have liked to have heard some GW tunes.

Questions:
1. Lynch Mob set list?
2. Break it down between Dokken and LM
3. Was there Pyro?
4. How was the merch?
5. How pricey were drinks?
6. How was the parking?
7. Who was playing in LM?
8. Were there hot chicks there?
9. Any chicks flash the band?
10. Was the crowd into it? Were they singing along?
11. What/where did you eat before the show?
12. Did you stop by a Waffle House or IHOP on the way home?

I'd pay 10 bucks as long as I wouldn't have to travel far.

Paris Is Burning/ Dance of the Dogs / River of Love / When Heaven Comes Down / Time After Time / For a Million Years / Synner Street / Fightin' Man / Wicked Sensation
Second set was
Lightnin' Strikes Again
Lynch Jam
Breaking the Chains
It's Not Love
The Hunter
Just Got Lucky
Into the Fire
Dead or Alive
Alone Again
Tooth and Nail
Dream Warriors
3. Was there Pyro?
No pyro but a cool laser light show
4. How was the merch?
Small booth with a couple of diff LM tees about $45 per. Some smaller stuff like coozies and pics
5. How pricey were drinks?
$8 normal beers $12 tall beers
6. How was the parking?
It’s Birmingham, so parking downtown always comes with a sense of danger attached to it. I was about 2 blocks away on the street, juked around one aggressive guy no other issues to report
7. Who was playing in LM?
Other than George I really didn’t know anyone
8. Were there hot chicks there?
There were more ladies there than I would’ve imagined to be honest. And some were dressed straight out of 1985 which was cool
9. Any chicks flash the band?
Not that I saw unfortunately. But was near the back so that could’ve happened. No crowd camera for us to see either
10. Was the crowd into it? Were they singing along?
Crowd was pretty into but a lot sat down too. About 50/50
11. What/where did you eat before the show?
Mexico Lindo, chicken enchilada
12. Did you stop by a Waffle House or IHOP on the way home?
Stopped at a Dairy Queen for a shake

DQ > Lynch Mob
Jani Lane and Bret Michaels should form a band called "Nelson II"

Re: I saw George Lynch/Lynch Mob live last night
To be fair, Terrys XYZ/AON band was pretty good, the music was very melodic rock and he sang pretty well at times. The sound issues messed it up a bit. And by the Dokken songs his voice was getting shot. What I should’ve done is gotten there right at 10:15 to catch the second set.LAglamrocker wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2024 11:10 am XYZ shake would be better than XYZ

Re: I saw George Lynch/Lynch Mob live last night
Terry is great, his voice has held up, and I was hoping they would hire him for Lynch Mob if Oni wasn't coming back.... he and George recorded together recently.
Check out this killer video of Terry and his band doing Heaven and Hell flamenco style - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MyZaq18AIe8
Terry was the singer for Great White until they fired him for releasing the above flamenco album the same year they had a new album coming out.

XYZ Great White wasn’t good at all..bad fit. Kind of like when Costco sold hamburgers.
I saw XYZ Great White headline Rainbow Bash..good try just missed.
Damn got google nearest DQ now. Still outside milkshake weather. Sunny near “cold” 62*

without Oni Logan, I have no interest.
he wrote most of the LM material, which is why the new album with his replacement is pretty horrible.

The second Lynch Mob album with Robert Mason was their best album.

Re: I saw George Lynch/Lynch Mob live last night
I liked the Smoke & Mirrors record a lot more than I assumed I'd like a latter-day LM record. The lead track 21st Century Man is killer! Oni's voice is as good or even better than ever here.

I wouldn’t walk across the street to see George if someone gave me a free ticket.
