Went to Rick Springfield and Eddie Money at the Uni Amp (couples thing) and knew I would need help really enjoying the show. So I drank vodka and beer until the bar ran out & ended up spending a lot of the show with my head in a Uni Amp toilet. After all that, spent like 2 hours trying to get out of the horribly designed Citywalk parking garage, which has thankfully been fixed. As for the theater, vodka bar & toilets, they were all removed to make room for a Harry Potter ride.

Saw Bob Dylan at stabler arena in PA 10 years ago. I knew what I was getting into and it was great. For some reason 85% of the crowd didn’t and walked out. Dude doesn’t give a fuck and for what it was, it was great.

I wish I hadn’t seen STP with Jeff Gutt at a festival last year. I wasn’t expecting much and got even less than that. Not saying it took away from the dozen times I saw them with Weiland, but it still bummed me out.

The Obituary gig that gave me permanent tinnitus. Though if I'd missed it it'd have been caused by someone else not long after.

The Fall. Utter crap. Mark didn't even come on stage until half way through the 3rd song and clearly didn't give a shit. I was told later by a Fall fan that it was normal behaviour and I should recognise his genius.

Elbow. Somehow, a reasonably big band here. Imagine Coldplay with even smaller balls. A friend bought tickets for me + 1 other thinking we'd like them. We left after 5 songs, the +1 guy got blind drunk, I let him crash at my flat, he pissed himself in the night, woke up, realised, ran out the door and left me to clean up.

I also regret turning up early for numerous shitty support bands.

GnR in about 2010.
Danko Jones opened (7 to 730) Bach from about 8 to 845. Both were awesome. Then GnR didn't come on till a about 12:30am. He had been doing this all tour, and I got tickets knowing that. I made it till almost 2am and bailed. Little did I know that the buses stopped running at 2 and we ended up having to take a cab home.

The entire show was great until then....and my 18 year old self wouldn't have cared about it at all. Easily my biggest regret.

Jackson Browne 89. At least the ticket was free cause I drove. Most entertaining part was that my friend drank a whole bottle of MD 20/20 and got tossed for pissing in his seat.

DLR/Cinderella/Extreme 91. Notable more as a document of a dying scene than as an entertainment experience.

New York Rock n Soul Revue 92. Fagen was working the kinks out for next year's Dan tour, which was much better.

TR-i 96. Todd Rundgren stood next to a screen and sang along to his CD-ROM. Even worse than it sounds. Highlight was a guy in the back row who screamed "Nazz!" the whole time.

Skold in 1996. It was free and still not worth it. He gave zero effort, had zero stage presence. It was really odd.

It was just him and his piano but the show was never advertised like that. We were expecting his full band.

We were treated to a pompous ass bragging about his accomplishments in between songs.

Saying things like "my mansion in LA has gold records on the wall, I love looking at them".

"My voice is a little froggy tonight and my onstage cup is NOT filled with vodka, really it isn't".

"Anyone that requests American Woman will be escorted out of the building by security, this is just me and my piano and anyone requesting that song deserves to be kicked out".

Somebody then jokingly requested American Woman and instead of taking it as the gag it was, he had the person kicked out by security.

This type of stuff went on, and on, and on.

He was an arrogant prick the whole show, and probably a bit drunk.

It was memorable that's for sure, but it was awful.

Miranda Lambert about ~15 years ago. Worst example of getting too big too fast I’ve ever seen. Yes, she filled the 18k seat Spectrum Center, BUT… she had absolutely no business playing to an arena. She was lost as a puppy in tall grass up there. It was awkward and embarrassing to watch.

Two Misfits ones:

Danzig about twenty years ago. His voice was completely blown out, and they masked it by making him barely audible in the mix. And I mean BARELY. Everyone was talking shit about the sound guy, but I knew what they were up to.

Doyle Von Frankenstein. I don't know why, but I saw he was playing and just went. It never ever occurred to me that he might have solo material - I just assumed it was him and some scabs doing Misfits.

We get there and its all tuneless, borderline death metal solo songs with some weirdo in a skirt onstage singing.

We left after about three songs and went to the rockabilly bar across the street.

I had a similar experience seeing new guns in 2006 or so, he pulled the usual 2 hour wait after support and everyone was going nuts that hadn’t left. Set was ok but everyone seemed polarised by the line up, and probably didn’t hardly know anyone in the band except when Izzy walked on to do a stones cover. I knew Robin Finck. Some people wearing faded Illusion tour shirts. I could be wrong but don’t think Ax’s voice was as bad as now, but i have never seen him/them since. He ended the show because someone threw a coin at him.

The only one I regret, was going to a Ramones show and being too drunk so they wouldn't let me in. After that I decided to not drink at shows, as it's a waste of money and time. That has held up pretty well for over 30 years. I'm glad I saw Ramones later on too.

In 1997, Clawfinger played a restaurant in a shopping mall close to where I lived. Never liked the band but the openers were Backyard Babies and Drain so I went to see them.

First shock. BYB had transformed from Guns/Skid Row lookalikes to 90s punk pop wannabes. They played a very short set focusing on the recent and awful Knockouts EP and a song or two off the not yet released Total 13. Not at all what I expected from a band I had seen before and I thought this was a Total Sellout. Not long after that (or maybe just before) they were on Headbangers' Ball and waffled on about how "Punk rock is happening right now and we wanna be on top of it".

Drain were just boring, their material didn't work live at all and felt like lacking energy. And Clawfinger were even worse than expected. I had enough and left after five songs.

Worst concerts:

Aeroshit "Rock In A Hard Place" - 4,000 people in a 10,000+ arena. Tyler was on drugs/drunk. He absolutely sucked. The band was boring. The set list sucked.

Aeroshit "Pump" - Tyler sucked. The band was boring. The set list really sucked (lots of soccer mom crap and a few covers). Only went to see how they were with Perry and Whitford.

Motley Shit/Megadeth (no Anthrax) - At Ozzfest a few weeks prior to this show there were signs stating to bring your Ozzfest ticket stub to get into this concert for free. A friend was going, so I went, too. The asshole ticket taker wouldn't let me in. The asshole at the box office wouldn't give me a ticket for the lawn. If I had driven myself, I would have left, but I was stuck and needed to purchase a ticket. Beyond pissed at this point. I was only there to see Megadeth (not a big fan, but hadn't seen them before). The place was empty. The area underneath the amphitheater's roof had a bunch of empty seats. The lawn was completely empty with the exception of 2 rows of people standing at the fence separating the covered section and the lawn. Motley Shit's "stage show" was at a high school theater class level. The band sucked (what's new?). Just one really shitty, wasted night.

KISS/Motley Shit "The Tour" - Motley Shit couldn't get off of the stage fast enough for me.

Eric Clapton "Journeyman" - I was on a date and wouldn't have been there otherwise. The most boring concert I've been to. One boring song after another. All of the guitar solos sounded the same. Ray Cooper (percussionist with Elton John) was such an attention whore. Totally obnoxious and a distraction.

Tom Petty "Full Moon Fever" - Another date and wouldn't have been there otherwise. Not a fan. Lenny Kravitz opened, so that part of the show was good. Didn't know much from him, but he was good.

Genesis "We Can't Dance" - Football stadium in May. Fucking cold. Phil "Overkill" Collins was sick. His voice sucked. They played a bunch of crap that I didn't know from the Peter Gabriel era, which left out many songs that I did want to hear.

Iron Maiden "A Matter Of Life And Death" - They played this entire shitty cd. The audience, with the exception of the first 2 rows, were pissed. I never saw an audience so bored at a rock concert.

Iron Maiden "Maiden England" - I saw Alice Cooper make Iron Maiden look really bad. That was the end of my supporting Maiden. That band had been turning to shit for a long time.

Ace Frehley (half dozen times prior to the KISS reunion) - Drunk. Tod Howarth or Richie Scarlet ran the show, not Ace. The two of them tried to make the shows rock. Ace was shit. And if you ask, why go a half dozen times, it was a cheap night out with friends.

Good call on maiden playing Amolad, I got a ticket before they announced the decision to play the new whole new album. I wouldn’t have minded if maiden played longer sets, but they played 4-5 old songs at the end, neither of which was TNOTB or RTTH, but they insisted on playing “Iron Maiden” which no one ever wants to hear.

GnR, Metallica and Faith No More at Olympic Stadium in Montreal, for obvious reasons. A waste of time and money.

To Metallica's credit, they did return a few months later to play two nights at the Montreal Forum, at only $16 per ticket, to make up for the set they had to cut short the previous summer. That was a great show!
