I HATE when bands start out there set by everyone just playing the same chord and the drummer is smashing the cymbals for like 90 seconds before they begin the first song....and then the singer waits until the first line of the first song to run out on stage.....because god forbid they are onstage with the rest of the band when the show starts.
I was at the 80s Invasion show at Mohegan Sun last weekend and 3 of the of 4 bands started their sets the exact same way (LA Guns, Vixen and Quiet Riot....though QR did it slightly different by playing a few bars of Metal Health before doing it). Thankfully, Pearcy did something different.
There has to be a better, less annoying way to kick off your sets!

LOL! I was gonna say, that's the "big 80's rock intro/ending". It's lazy but it works.
The laziest intro I ever saw which was also one of the best. Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes...they all just walk on stage, Southside grabs the mic, looks at the band and says "Well... play something" and they go right into the first song.

On the opposite side, the best opening ever is LSD. Especially if you have no idea of the band beforehand. I never heard of them and went to Bogart's in Cincinnati to see Lynch Mob with LSD as the opener. Some bum that I saw walking around on the streets while waiting to get in, now is pushing past people, climbing up on stage right next to us and looking around all weird. Then he starts playing Blue Velvet Moon on a crappy acoustic guitar before the band comes out and drowns him out with feedback before rocking out to We're Here Now.
I left the show a fan and bought the Silent Majority the next day.

I remember an 80's Cult opening for Billy Idol. The band starts playing the opening song, and Ian walks out onstage smoking a cigarette like he just woke up and was walking into his kitchen or something, and then casually flicks his cigarette way up into the air right before the first line. Total rockstar energy.

When I saw STP, they opened with Big Empty. That killed the entire show for me. Sort of like KISS opening their show with Beth.

Wow.
He wins the bronze medal for "coolest Maiden singer stage presence currently" behind Dianno slumped in his wheelchair.

Sounds like every lame casino show (Great White, Slaughter especially) I’ve watched roll through ND.kingbrian74 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 24, 2024 8:10 am I HATE when bands start out there set by everyone just playing the same chord and the drummer is smashing the cymbals for like 90 seconds before they begin the first song....and then the singer waits until the first line of the first song to run out on stage.....because god forbid they are onstage with the rest of the band when the show starts.

Not even my favorite band by any means, but this has always been the best opening ever.
