In the course of a week, DLR has talked shit about Valerie, the entire Bertinelli family, Alex, and now Wolfgang. And the part where DLR interviews God at the beginning of that video is mocking Wolfgang saying that his last name is an hinderance, so this video was done within the last few days.

I think the more interesting story is not what Dave has said about them, but why Dave is saying all this now. Perhaps he just got tired of being painted as the difficult one and wanted to show that's not the case. Maybe it's a financial issue within the band. Whatever it is, he has an agenda. And while it's LOL material for Sludge and Van Halen boards, it's also just sad that Dave and Sammy, two senior citizens, are both just yelling at clouds. It's not doing the legacy of Van Halen any favors and is just lame. The Van Halen fans I know are over the negativity and just want to celebrate the band, not be reminded that they're all a bunch of fucking 70 year old children.

It's a longer video that's a bit of a chore to get through but there are lots of nuggets in it:

DLR says Sam was raped by aliens (basically), which is why he's the way he is. He mentions that Alex is a drunk bully a few times and said that Eddie would tell him, "Dave I fucking hate my brother. It's why I fucking drink." He talked about how much Alex would drink in the studio. He said during Eddie's wedding that they both him and Ed hated the entire Bertinelli family. Then at the end he mentions that Eddie called him and said that Valerie found a VHS tape and that she was gonna divorce him, and she did. She took his money and kid and left him broke. He said "In a declaration of some evangelical type 1930s fucking hate, she and her lawyers beat the shit out of that kid. She fucked him out of everything. And I’m gonna tell ya, she left him flat, and penniless. The great Van Halen. Had to go borrow a million dollars and do the unimaginable, he was compelled, yes, he had to call me." That part is towards the end of the video at around 22:25.

There's also a followup video called "The Sportsmen's Lodge" where he talks about how he met his 2nd wife Janie, who was a porn publicist, and kind of goes over that period of time where Eddie was really fucked up. DLR has a million stories about himself so it's interesting that he's bringing up a story that really doesn't have to do with him.

But... make no mistake, in any interview I have ever done, regardless whether it was 1988, 2001 or 2023, I have ALWAYS championed David Lee Roth,

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. All of us from the several sites who got to see Van Halen in 2012 at those amazing shows I will always be grateful for, were all guests of David Lee Roth. The Van Halen family did nothing for any of us. Just remember that when you think Dave is the bad guy in all this stuff, or the stingy one. And I believe every word he said.

And not only that…but the amount of times that Dave’s liaison came up to us to see how we were doing, and were we enjoying the show, was amazing. I mean we were fucking nobodies, and she treated us like we really mattered. It was pretty cool. She was the nicest person. So that’s what matters to Dave apparently.

And when I did the meet and greet thing with the band in 1995, as I’ve also said before MANY times…who was the one guy in the band who seemed put out and bothered by the whole thing? Of course…Al. Sam and Mike were ridiculously nice, and even Ed was super nice with his trademark smile. I didn’t even waste my time wandering near Al because I could see he was annoyed by all of us. So I didn’t even shake his hand, and that was fine with me. Frankly, I didn’t give two shits about meeting Al anyway, I was there to meet the King. At least Al put on a fake smile for the picture so he didn’t ruin that.

But Wolfgang clearly has inherited the family genes when it comes to how to treat the fans. Or at least he’s got his uncle’s ideas of how the fans should be treated. Like dog shit. Unless of course he needs to promote something and needs Van Halen fans to buy his albums.
