Shouldn't be done too often but when it happened it didn't bother me. Gene Simmons bringing 15 year old Vincent to play drums on 2 songs was cool, and I think I saw Manowar bring some contest winner on stage to play guitar twice and it was ok, maybe they had to prove that they could play as they did quite well.

I've seen vids of Foo Fighters (or some such) bringing someone up for A SONG. I don't mind that too much, especially if it's a young kid with good skills. Now, when Green Day was on their American Idiot Tour, they brought someone up, and, as part of the show, it dragged on and on and on. Play this chord, this chord, this chord...now Trey will bring in the drums - keep playing that progression. It was probably 20 minutes of that shit. A 4-minute song, I'm okay with it.

I saw Weezer, during the Troublemaker Tour, where hootenannies were held on stage during concerts, in which fans performed on Beverly Hills and Island in the Sun. There must have been more than 20 idiots onstage with everything from kazoos to tubas. I remember it being very stupid.

Not nearly as bad as having the audience sing the chorus or those stupid cheering contests, or even overly long solos for that matter. Play the tunes we came to hear by the people we came to hear play them!

When I saw Phil Anselmo and the Illegals, they brought some kid onstage to play Walk with them. He was great.

Saw online the kid died of cancer not long after, which was apparently why they brought him up.

I love when Green Day and Foo Fighters do it. Green Day have done it more often than not for most of their career at this point. FF fairly often for at least the past decade.

In 2019 Metallica had some kid play drums for Seek & Destroy. It was aiite. The year prior I saw them in SLC and a half-row worth of kids in the lower bowl had a giant sign saying “LARS CAN I PLAY DRUMS ON FUEL?” They don’t play that song every night. He was facing them the whole show and had to have seen the sign. They played it 3/4 into the set, sign unacknowledged. We got a good laugh at that.

Just rewatched Rock Star for the first time in forever last night. I’d totally blow it if Steel Dragon brought me up for Stand Up And Shout!
