Country singer Toby Keith dies at 62

Post by SexxAtraxxion »

https://edition.cnn.com/2024/02/06/ente ... index.html
Country singer Toby Keith died Monday at the age of 62 after a battle with stomach cancer.

“Toby Keith passed peacefully last night on February 5th, surrounded by his family. He fought his fight with grace and courage. Please respect the privacy of his family at this time,” a statement posted to Keith’s website and social media said.

Keith was diagnosed with stomach cancer in 2022.

Keith performed at the 2023 People’s Choice Country Awards in September and received the Country Icon Award.

He released his debut album in 1993 and is known for hits including “Red Solo Cup” and “I Wanna Talk About Me.” Keith’s 2002 song “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American),” released in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, made him a household name.

I can't name any of his songs, but I knew he was battling cancer. It seemed inevitable, but 62 is too young. Even a musician I didn't listen to hits me, being 57. We have no control over our exit strategy. They say 85% of things we worry about in the future don't happen, so stop worrying.

RIP.

So many good songs. I just went down a rabbit hole the other day listening to his stuff. I thought he was better or at least not getting worse, so this caught me off guard for sure.

One of his more recent songs, Don’t Let the Old Man In, is about dying. Really hits home now!

Yeah, because a song that glorifies lynching is about racial harmony right?

Could you be more specific about this "Lynching Song"? I don't really listen to country music so I am genuinely curious about this. I know he was a big supporter of veterans and advocate for disabled veterans. But, it is possible to be both. Youtube link?

Yeah, I knew things weren’t looking good for him during that last cancer update. I don’t listen to much of his music, but he had a few good songs. It’s a sad day for the rednecks, anyway. RIP…

I could see Bret doing a Toby Keith song in his set. Thunderdan will love it.

Cancer got him fast! Photos of him from the past 2 years were sad to see.

He had so many great songs. The 35 Biggest Hits record is a good place to start but he had several other great songs throughout his career.
https://music.apple.com/us/album/35-big ... 1452801021

I'm going to guess he was a big drinker and eater. He was a big guy. 62 is way too f'n young these days though.

Money? The man made a fortune!

Seen him in concert a couple times and had a blast at both shows.

RIP Toby!

99% of the time, you and I are on this same page. This time, I think you're way off, IF you're referring to the song I think you're referring to.
If you're referring to "Beer For My Horses," which came under fire like last year sometime, the line in question has absolutely nothing to do with race and doesn't even imply anything that should be construed as racist. It's a cowboy song and the line refers to hanging bad guys in the cowboy days. That's all.

Just because black people were lynched doesn't mean every reference to lynching has to automatically be about black people. Not everything has to be racist.

Someone from the opposite political party I subscribe to has a differing opinion this one time, so I'll sum up their entire persona in as reductive a way as I can and judge an entire group based on it. Everyone's mentality, these days. Let's knock that shit off, yeah?

I agree. I'm that guy in the picture some nights. I try to combat it with melatonin and, sometimes, Benadryl. I was a THC gummy guy before bed until about a month ago it hit me so wrong I had THC intoxication. My wife thought I had a stroke. I was beyond stoned, so those are on the shelf right now. Anyway, so far so good at keeping the brain gears from spinning all night.

Why politics comes into, I don't get. However, he was a registered democrat until registering independent in 2008. He played for Bush, Obama, and Trump out of respect for the office. Did he push buttons lyrically? Sure. Racist? No. Trumpster, not necessarily.

It's the times we live in. No one can talk about music, sports, movies, work, vacations, family, or any topic without that being brought up by some asshat. Pretty damn sad. I don't know his music, but I know he's been battling. After losing both my first wife, my first mother-in-law, and my dad to cancer (and we all have someone), it's fucking tragic for them and anyone in their orbit. Serious Sludge is often laughed at like we're pussies if it isn't funny or sludgey. I fucking hate cancer with my black heart and dead soul.

“How Do You Like Me Know” is the ultimate fuck you song.

Toby had such a distinct voice and timber to to it. I’m not into political anything but “Courtesy Of The Red, White and Blue” resonated huge when it was relaid thereafter.
