Man I hate Tattoo. I think if it was the last song on the album, It might be remembered as a fun goofy song. But being the first new thing we heard from them in 25 years...No.


Without you is fine, I'll vote for that

Tattoo is without a doubt the worst song on ADKOT but all things being relative it’s a great album and Tattoo isn’t a bad song per se, just pretty basic and boring compared to the others and it doesn’t help that it was the first song and first single.

Without You is one of the less-weak songs on an extremely weak album.

So, Tattoo wins.

I thought Tattoo had some good lyrics, especially the lines about the unions.

Tattoo wins easily just for the lyrics.

And the only musically good part in these two songs is the pre-chorus to Tattoo.

I always liked Tattoo. It reminded me a bit of Sensible Shoes which is one of my favorite DLR songs. I think you're right though. It just wasn't what people wanted as the leadoff single/track after 25 years.

Tattoo was a terrible choice as a lead singer for Roth's return. Should have been She's The Woman. Without You has trouble with the verses. Cherone sounds like he's struggling to fit in the words.

Neither ranks up there as a favorite, but I like both songs. I just listened to Without You for the first time in a decade. It sounds like an Extreme song with a little VH woven in. Since Tattoo reminds me of the same vibe as Me Wise Magic, I dig it in that same way.

Best Cherone song wins out on one of the weaker cuts on ADKOT.

Tattoo is great - the verses and solo are as good as any Van Halen. The chorus is jarring at first because Mikey is sorely missed throughout AKOT, but it grew on me. Might be my favorite 80s band song released post-Nirvana.

Without You.... couldn't tell you what it sounds like with a gun to my head. But I remember it being one of the worst songs of all time.

Chuck Klosterman famously ranked every Van Halen studio track back in 2020. I like Chuck, and he's admittedly a rock fan, but how the bottom 12 songs weren't all Van Halen III tracks, I'll never understand. Must be some writer thing.

Well that would be too easy. I liked Chucks list as I recall. He hates Hagar, tfs.
