The opening scene writes itself: The Van Halen family on a ship, coming over from the Netherlands, playing music to pay their way. Once they land in America, the kids can't speak a word of English so they learn to communicate through MUSIC.
The rest of the movie will be about how they drank a lot.

What about the scene with Alex burning himself when he was drunk? It's in Sammy's book. If it's true..

The scene I want is where Al tries to jump over the broom handle he's holding and lands right on his face in the driveway. He had to go to the hospital. He was nuts.

As long as the soundtrack has ten Frankensteined Van Halen songs from the 1970s, I'm in. Throw in a 1985 rehearsal with Roth too.

Cringing at the thought.
The one scene that would be fun early in the plot is a story Eddie told about when he first came to America and didn’t speak much English and he apparently answered in the affirmative to a kid asking, “Do you want me to hit you with this?”
