Kiss - You Wanted The Best... Question

I know this was released to coincide with the Alive Worldwide tour, but the 4 unreleased tracks don't sound like 70's recordings to my ear. I just listened to Take Me, and it sure sounds like Paul's voice in the 90's as opposed to the 70's. His voice seemed a lot more raw and aggressive in the early days.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXKFOH0 ... a2UgbWU%3D

"Take Me" Sean Delaney, Stanley previously unreleased, recorded in Los Angeles, California in 1977

Just wondering if anyone else knew anything more about the 4 unreleased live recordings.

I mean, old news....but yah, the idea of them being 'lost' recordings from the 70's was total horseshit.

From what I remember the vocals on the “unreleased” tracks are from the 90’s … KISS thought fans were so stupid we’d fall it but we didn’t.

Huh. The shit you learn almost 30 years later. I wasn't a big enough fan to care that they were faked, so I certainly wasn't listening hard enough to notice. Not even sure when the last time I listened to those tracks was, I know I had that CD when it was released, but sold it off with a bunch of other CDs in the early 2000s and just recently rebought it cheap.

Pretty sure all the guitar signals were run through new updated guitar rigs too.

I never understood why they pulled that, would have been way better : NEW 1996 RE-RECORDINGS or something like that but they tried to fool us and .....they failed
they even denied it on goldmine magazine!

Yeah pretty well known they were re-recorded. I like them though! Prefer them more than firehouse on alive.

The worst part about the album is the jay leno interview.

I recall this one being the most obvious giveaway. Sounded nothing like '70s Paul.

Every KISS interview since Gene's appearance on the Mike Douglas Show has been the same. As a kid, just seeing them on TV was cool because of the mystique. As an adult, they have said the same bullshit for 45+ years. The Jay Leno bit was horrendous.

"Two Timer" was kind of the giveaway that these were going to be fakes when the tracklisting was announced as most of us knew they had never played it. They could've used something like "Hooligan" or "Do You Love Me" and made it more believable.

And that rip straight from the Innersanctum video really helped illustrate how doctored up the other "lost" tracks were. I liked the concept of an album that was essentially a best of Alive! and Alive II. It helped with the whole mythological might and magic of OG KISS that summer but like so many other KISS projects, it got screwed up. Leno interview!? What!?

Since the Revenge/COS era, KISS has done nothing of substance besides raking in undeserved cash from touring and merchandise. I saw a couple of reunion shows and one or two more after Singer re-upped. Aside from the over-touring, think about any good output. There is none. KISS was finished after Revenge, but You Wanted the Best, and the reunion tour and tours through 2023 were based solely on nostalgia hype. I cannot give an ounce of love to Thonic Boom and Monther. Both shit.

KISSology series was good output.

And unplugged is a great album.

Although that is based on their older music of course.

We're on the same page. I've said this for years. The retromachine started as soon as the Revenge tour ended. Alive III/Konfidential, KISS My Ass, Unplugged... all of it was geared toward the reunion. Revenge was indeed the last KISS record.

I enjoyed the Unplugged televised show but rarely played the CD. Then again, it was 1995 or 4 (who cares?), and there was little to no internet action happening. Seeing them on TV was still kind of special, especially MTV, which gave them no love except for that Dial-in countdown show. I remember Tears making the top 10 in the mid-80s for a while. I had no interest in their convention tour. Yes, Revenge was the end. I don't mind Jungle and a few of the heavier/grungier songs on CoS. The best thing since Revenge has been Kulick's band on the cruises. I won't spend a dime to go ON the cruise, but the YT videos are good.

MTV made Unplugged an event. They aired KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park in the lead up!

According to fans over at Kissfaq, they played Two Timer at least once, at the same Detroit 1975 show where they opened with Rock Bottom. The show was recorded for Alive! And there are people who have heard the soundboard tape. There are rumors of an Alive! 50 box set including some of the 1975 soundboard. Remember how soundboards from the Creatures tour leaked when they were working on that box set.

Are the KISSology offerings on any streaming service or YouTube in full? I never bought them since I was in my bailing on KISS stage. I'd be interested in seeing them, but a DVD player? What is that?

Ah shit, just put the album on and the first song is "Room Service."

Gene sounds like ‘70s on this one more than the other stuff. I also believe the liner notes say it was recorded in Detroit. I think they probably recorded most or all of the Alive! album during sound check. They likely recorded lots of stuff they never used. I think it’s possible this might be at least partly old unlike the half-speed super fake Room Service. It’s just such a weird song to fake for this compilation since it was probably never played live and literally no one was hoping for a live version. With the drums all resampled it’s tough to know for sure what’s “vintage”.

Can you "fix" these? Give em classic 70s vocals, proper drums, and add in some other ones off the 3 albums that were played live back then? "Alive 0.5"!

That's what's needed, not work on Unmasked/The Elder (no offense)

I am doing an expanded Alive! this year for the 50th and am doing exactly that. Including everything out here and it’ll all sound like it was recorded at the same time. Room Service, Let Me Know, Two Timer, Ladies in Waiting and even a “live” version of “Love Theme”. Did I forget anything?

BTW, my Elder is finished and will be uploaded shortly (the 3 Sides guys want to have me back on for it). It’s by far the coolest KISS thing I’ve ever done.

Here’s a preview I posted a couple days ago. Alive! Is cool and all, but the ELDER RULES

The supposedly did play SW at least once or twice on the early Canadian tour, but no audio exists that I know of, so I won't be doing that one. It has to be at least partially authentic. I don't want to just completely fake it with an album track and crowd noise or whatever.

pretty sure they threw Love Her All I Can together quickly by just copying the Wicked Lester version since they needed material for DTK in a hurry. No idea, but I never heard about it being played live.

I already "remixed" most of Alive! when I did the Winterland show since the rhythm guitars, bass and drums were used, with the Winterland vocals and solos. Plus those drums were all edited to match the show, so I just need to use the original drum parts, solos and vocals and most of Alive! is already finished.

The same goes for Alive II, which I did basically the same for my Alright, Largo! '77 show. I'm planning on doing an expanded Alive II as well adding Do You Love Me?, Hooligan, Take Me, Flaming Youth and possibly even Love 'Em and Leave 'Em which they did play at least once. There are no good recording to use, but with the one bootleg live recording and the rehearsal versions as a guide, I may be able to create something that matches how it would have sounded.

In the interests of realism, could your Alive II include songs from the first 3 albums that they performed at that time, and delete fuckin' Tomorrow and Tonight (I assume that wasnt ever played live)
