Best solo Crue

Post by DangerZone »

well, they kicked out Mick & he’s badly missed.
And he put out his solo record…

So, who’s the best solo Crue member?

(Vince by far, in my opinion)

Beat me to it. Exposed smokes every other album by individuals members. Hell, Exposed is the the best crue related album since the 80s.

I also even like carved in stone!

Exposed was basically the follow-up to Feelgood. If it had been released as a Motley album, I think it would have sold a lot more given that it was 1993. You have five songs that compare pretty well with the singles from Feelgood. But MTV had stopped playing Hard Rock and Metal videos at the beginning of '93 outside of Headbangers Ball and Beavis, so it was always gonna be an uphill battle. Grunge didn't kill these bands. Back in 1998, some Metal fans and I reached the conclusion that just about anything that got on MTV would sell into the stratosphere. That it was much more powerful than radio. Vince got plenty of air time on 103.5 The Blaze. As did songs like Egypt, Big Gun, Only, and Angry Again. Exposed was not something I saw in stores much. Ended up getting it at Phar-Mor. It wasn't stacked all over Best Buy the way MC94 was. Then again, Sail Away and Walk On got prominent space at Best Buy and I don't think those sold all too well either.

I was a huge Motley guy back in the day and I never got into the Vince solo stuff. After everyone’s response in here, I have Exposed another chance and I still don’t get it.

Exposed is better than Dr. Feelgood. Feelgood has about three good tracks, and the rest should be lumped in with theater of pain

What three are you referring to? I've always liked the singles and Time For Change. Six songs. Is Rodeo from the Feelgood sessions? That's better than most everything on Feelgood and GGG, insane that they left it off an album. On Exposed I know 5 tracks offhand that I consider pretty high quality. There may be something else on there that I like. If Exposed is released as a Motley album in '94 instead of MC94, it definitely sells better than the latter.

Yup, Tattoos & Tequila is way better than I would have guessed it would be. He kinda nails all those covers. Most anyway.

Not Vince.

I remember putting Exposed in my CD player and and hearing Look in her Eyes and thinking "uh-oh." I really like Billy Idol and I loved Crue. "Exposed" sounded fake to me. Like an imitation. "Cant Have Your Cake" for example was clearly them sitting down and saying "Okay lets write a copy of Kickstart My Heart." Also Exposed sounds like shit..... was Bob Rock not available?

"You're Invited" is really good in the single version without Stevens.

Sixx:AM got boring fast, but those singles of theirs are the best thing Nikki's written since Feelgood.

"Lies of the Beautiful People" and "Life is Beautiful" are pretty damn good for a guy who was pushing 50 when they were written.

Exposed was as good as Feelgood. First Sixx AM pretty good as well, but I prefer the sound of Exposed.

Nevison produced. There's your answer.
