Boz Scaggs songs. Overrated, or Underrated ?

Post by Olivia Sophia »

I listen to I heart radio app, and I'm noticing that Scaggs songs ALL hold up. Lido has the same energy now.

I'm not sure that can be said even about....tom petty or peter Frampton.

So.....I say highly under rated. Great expressive vocalist too. A high tenor?

Can't he just be "rated." Not over or under? Right where he belongs. Like Joe Jackson or Warren Zevon.

Agree. Silk Degrees was a huge hit. He's definitely talented, and he got the success he was due.

I'm trying to think of another artist who could make hits out of songs like lowdown, and we're all alone.

His voice was hard to typecast. More expressive than powerful.

Maybe Michael Martin Murphy, or JD souther.

Folk jazz.

Joe Jackson is underrated AF. Zevon..meh I’m a fan but I don’t get all the hype. A lot like Leon Russell. I highly respect him and am awed by Russell’s career but his albums, at least from what I’ve heard, didn’t punch me in the face the way a Jeff Beck or Zeppelin did. Same goes for Warren.

I haven’t heard enough Boz to judge.

With that Toto, Thriller rhythm section & Lukather on guitar, that run of albums was insane. Also from the 'newer' stuff, check out Gone Baby Gone.

Love the song in the movie Urban Cowboy! What's his other good song?

I think Joe Jackson is a good analogy of a white singer with an expressive tenor that had strong songs.

But I think he's rated very highly by everything I've ever heard.

Songs hold up.

Vocal performances Grammy level.

Hellz yes, it does. So do "Lowdown", "Lido Shuffle", "What Can I Say", "Georgia", "Simone", "Look What You've Done to Me", etc. Though I wouldn't say Boz Scaggs was ever underrated. A highly rated yacht rock god, actually, and rightly so.

Yeah, ""Look what you've Done to me""".

That song has SOUL.

It held its own on rock radio when they slowed things down and played a ballad.

Like the Eagles "I can't tell you why".

Slow slow tempo.

Agree. He didn't fade away, he walked away - at some point, he just said F it and started making music for himself, and his record company stuck with him.

OK, make it three. The other two are Lido and Lowdown.
