Gunman believed to be a 14-year-old in Georgia school shooting that left at least 4 dead
At least four people were killed and nine others injured Wednesday morning as a gunman sent students and faculty at a Winder, Georgia, high school desperately scurrying for cover, schools across the county into lockdown and parents scrambling for information.
Four people were killed in the shooting inside Apalachee High School, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Nine others were transported to hospitals with injuries.
Law enforcement sources said earlier approximately 30 people were injured in the shooting. It was unclear how many of those injuries are from gunshot wounds; the information is preliminary and subject to change.
The suspected gunman is believed to be a 14-year-old boy, a law enforcement source told CNN.
The suspect is alive and in custody, the GBI said in a post on X.
The high school had received an earlier phone threat, multiple law enforcement officials told CNN.
The phone call Wednesday morning warned there would be shootings at five schools, and that Apalachee would be the first.
The US has suffered at least 385 mass shootings so far this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive, which, like CNN, defines mass shootings as those in which four or more victims are shot. That’s an average of more than 1.5 mass shootings every day.
This is literally just about an hour or so away from my hometown, and my local high school's football team just played against theirs last school year. So, yeah, very scarily close to home. Thoughts and prayers, anyone?

Trixter is awesome but everyone has seen After The Rain video correct? That’s one of first things I’m going thank God for
Turns out the shooter's mom is a complete white trash meth head with 17 years worth of priors including domestic abuse, so growing up the way he did it's not much of a surprise he armed up and murdered his classmates:
Crazy to hear that this kid made threats last year to shoot up the school, Police got involved, the kid denied it, Dad said "He can't access my guns" etc... and they let it go.
Likely chalked it up to a 13 year old, with a temper, etc...
Well... now... there is no denying it... I wonder if Dad or the Mom somehow get roped into the charges. Hopefully so... clearly they are (were) horrible parents.
Now 4 families will bury a loved one because this kid is a loser, and his parents sucked at being parents.
I saw 1 interview with a girl student, who basically said something like "If we had a school shooter, he WAS the guy", as she said he gave off that vibe, and she was correct.

I've been thinking about this all day. Maybe it is time we make the parents responsible for their guns if it is used in a shooting. You want guns, fine, but you have to be responsible for them.
Us frogs have more class, our teachers just drop dead in front of their Kindergarden class on the very first day, what better lesson of life can you give to our youths?!

Well, it looks like you got your wish!
The father has been arrested.
So were the kids parents in Michigan last year. You are absolutely right...this is what needs to be done.
