I wish they would remaster/reedit the album to take out those annoying electronic toms Blotz uses all over this record. That's the only thing needed in an otherwise perfect 80's milestone of an album.

Wouldn’t they have to re record all that?

It’s weird he used those toms on multiple albums.

Blame Van Halen, 1984, 5150 and OU812 have electronic drums all over the place.

Huh, so Reach for the Sky is from when Marq Torien was in the band instead of Warren? Without hearing it, I can understand why Warren was probably against putting it on the album.

Has this song been out there before as a B-side, or is going to be first time people are hearing it?

Don't think this song was out before, maybe on some obscure bootleg. Post the song already if you have it. Anyone... Bueller?

The timeline of Ratt is a mess but it seems Warren was in before Torien, replacing Jake E Lee, briefly left and was replaced by him, then returned?

Actually, blame Phil Collins. OOTC came out a month after 1984.

You're probably right. At first, I was thinking that if they were just triggered, perhaps the real toms are filed away somewhere, but most likely at that year, it was 100% electronic toms. I'm not sure of the timeline for triggering normalcy and actually how that technically goes down in the studio. Shit, I'd re-record the toms at this point.

Reach for the Sky, the unreleased song is out now for streaming. Decent song that definitely sounds like it was from the OOTC sessions!

Pretty cool - Like a Time Machine back to '83. I can kinda see why it was left off the original album, but there are some interesting Iron Maiden/Judas Priest influences all over this one.

Out of the Cellar pretty much predates what is standardly known as "Hair Metal", so you can see more NWOBHM metal influences than Pop with Ratt at this point. They were always more dual guitar NWOBHM than they were Van Halen.

I like the song. The riff has a 70's classic rock dual guitar vibe to it.

Marq was brought into Ratt when Warren left Ratt to join Dokken because Lynch left Dokken to tour with Ozzy to learn the set to replace Gillis. Ozzy ended up going with Jake instead. So, Lynch when back to Dokken, Warren went back to Ratt and Marq started Bullet Boys. I saw the Marq version of Ratt at the Country Club In Reseda, not bad actually, but Warren was the right choice for Ratt.

Reach for the Sky is one of those "hey, we need another song" kinda tracks. Sounds like Ratt playing a song written by some high school kids who just got into Iron Maiden.

Juan's bass stands out - dude was in the pocket from the day he was born.

What...the...fuck. Just to be clear, there's no actual guitar in that song except for the solo, right?

Awesome, I dig it. That album sounds big and ballsy, too bad they went wimpy with Invasion.

If they have the original tracks they could substitute the electronic toms for real tom samples and remix it.
Unless someone was really trying to replicate the original final mix (and even if they were) it's going to sound different to us guys that have been listening to it since it came out...
Funny thing is, I guess I never really paid attention that close to the toms because they never bothered me or stuck out...

Listening to the new "Reach For The Sky" tune and it has the real toms (and no electric toms). I guess this seems to confirm that they have the real toms recorded during these sessions, and maybe were just triggering the electronic sounds. The real toms sound great and powerful and should have been the way they laid down the entire album.
