Scorpions are celebrating...

A 60th anniversary.

1. How?

2. This is like an anti-selling point. Makes me want to see them less. Better off not mentioning it at all.

3. I know... band members come and go. Is there anyone in the current lineup who's been there since 1965? And if not, is it technically an anniversary?

I'm not Googling this shit. Sludge is my search engine.

I feel like they missed the bus by not using the tag line: 60 YEARS OF SCORPING

I believe Rudolf Schenker has Scorped his way since 1965 along with Lothar Heimberg who played on some early Scorps albums.

Technically, Klaus and Rudolf joined the band Dawn Road with Uli Roth and Francis Buchholtz after Michael and Lothar left but they took on Rudolf's old band name and never played together as Dawn Road.

Rudolf formed the Scorpions in 1965 and is the only person who has played on every Scorpions song released.

When they recorded their first album in 1971, there was already six or seven ex-Scorpions. By the time they made their second album, that number was 12 or 13

I wonder if that's true. I doubt he played on "Sun in My Hand"

Amazingly, they had four drummers between the first and second album that didn't play on any recording. To be fair one of them died while in the band and the next one was a touring replacement only.

For each source you look up there seems to pop up a new 1970s Scorpions member. Today I learned that they had a singer just before Klaus called Herbi Spamfritter (!!) And that the bootlegged show in Minden 1973 was one of the few with Michael Schenker after the rhythm section of Lothar Heimberg and Wolfgang Dziony had left. Joe Wyman was still on drums and the bassist was only known as Evi....

Edit: Someone apparently played the Minden 1973 show to Heimberg who confirmed it was him playing and he remembered the show. Must have been one of his very last shows as he was replaced by Evi until Michael Schenker left in June. Also Wyman did not play with them anymore in 1973, he was replaced with Helmut Eisenhut who was there until the first show with Uli on June 29th 1973. What a mess this band's history is ....https://web.archive.org/web/20080410083 ... ions_2.htm

Almost as many as LA Guns but it took them 60 years to get there.

I think it was for the 50th anniversary tour, they did a interview with Rudolph, and as a gag, one of the interview questions was for him to name 10 former members.

It's absolutely idiotic to contend Zep weren't A-listers in the 1970s.

Herman Rarebell's Scorpions Experience would have been awesome.

Starting point for the 5 current members:

1965
1970
1978
2004
2016

Pretty good IMO especially since most of their huge hits were in the 80s.

And the 2016 member is Mikkey Dee, who fucking rules.

Don gets so much shit for his voice now, but let's throw it back to when he was on two tracks on Rarebell's solo album and they're both phenomenal:

He was on a few others, but those are my favorites.

Fun fact, Hard Sensation was released in 1986, but was originally called "Two Timer" and was on Herman's first LP back in 1981.

Even funner fact? Motley Crue used to cover it in the early days!

Cool, huh?

Didn't Herbi Spamfritter become a porn star? I know some of his relatives helped develop the V2 rocket.
