Liked his White Zombie look / friendship with Zombie also

He pretty much created me..always grateful
Seems to live his life always doing what he wants..cool to me

Hot wife-no kids- can probably get WWE tickets in Charlotte with quick call to HHH

Thanked me for seeing Battery Club in Fresno after the show

I can't believe people even use the word poser anymore. Let's look at someone's actions from 30+ years ago and decide whether they're a poser or not. It feels like we should have all gotten past that kind of nonsense. The only posers I know are people in their 40's, 50's and 60's who concern themselves with who is or isn't a poser.

I don't think he pretended to like bands he didn't on Headbanger's Ball. People who call him a poser say that because he cut his hair and changed his style of dress through the years. Maybe that was influenced by MTV. Vanessa Warwick hosted Headbanger's Ball through the 90s, in Europe, and changed her look as well.

Never came across as one to me.

Nah, maybe a bit of a dork at times, but definitely not a poser. Seems like a nice guy.

Adam Curry was for sure but not Riki though he sure did say 'this is my favorite band' a lot.

Definitely not. He always seemed genuine, even when he was introducing Hericane Alice videos.

I'm from the Pantera/White Zombie generation so HBB was a pretty big deal to me when I was a kid. Yeah, you'd have a little Hericane Alice, maybe a lil' Trixter, but that show got me into a lot of badass shit like Morbid Angel and Prong.

Slightly off-topic there--he didn't pick the Prong videos any more than he picked the Mr. Big videos--just saying Riki gets my respect.

Maybe not as bad as Curry, but for someone who was intimately part of the scene, he seemed clueless and insincere half the time.

Riki was a poser back then, he was a poser 20 years ago and he’s still a poser now. He’s Anthony Esposito level poser.

Adam Curry was all class. Whether he was a fan or not, you wouldn’t know it because he was and still is a pro. Riki was a coattail riding, poser, hipster who got lucky cause his best bud was a singer on the C List.

Actually, The Starwood, Gazzarri’s, Troubadour, Roxy, Whisky and Chuck Landis’ Country Club in the CEO’s backyard was ground zero for all the music we talk about here. The Cathouse, like both of its owners, was a flash in the pan. Just another Johnny Come Lately that had a shorter shelf life than Enuff Z’Nuff.

Yes Chip, all of our heroes here are posers in one way or another. A good kind and a bad kind. Riki is the bad kind. He sucks.

This was at the height when the music was being derided as “butt rock” and the everlasting “hair metal”. (Remember when it was called poseur or pop metal?) While I don’t think Riki’s a poser, he didn’t want to be considered uncool either.

He also didn't want to be unemployed. He knew the window was closing.

He is a paid entertainer. That's a term that can be applied to anyone who plays a role in front of a camera or performs in front of a camera or microphone. I don't have the first clue who the *real* Riki Rachtman is.

I saw Megadeth, Motorhead and Primus at the Cathouse so he's pretty solid as a booker at least.

If you are talking about “hair metal”, no, but back in the day when he was hosting Headbanger’s Ball he absolutely was considered sort of a dorky poser but everyone playing thrash or any other kind of actual metal. How is this even a question?

He seemed like the kind of guy who totally followed the crowd in high school. Like the kid who meets some dudes who listen to Metallica and comes to school the next day with a leather biker jacket and Metallica pins all over it. You know the type.

I don’t know him and he may be a nice guy but he absolutely came across as a poser doing HB Ball. I mean, he was Lemmy compared to Adam Curry, of course, but still a nerd and very try-hard on that show.
