Now they've called it a career. How good were they as they are always mentioned by fans about how underrated they are?

Bert and Poison owe a lot of their early stage antics to Kix. Bert pretty much copped Whiteman's stage moves and persona before they got big in Hollywood.
I always thought Atlantic blew it by not pushing them more, Kix was a good mix of AC/DC influenced Cheap Trickish fun songs, but they weren't the spandex and hairspray crowd really so they didn'tget the push they deserved in my opinion. Saw them with Ratt and they were great.
I've always dug them. Fuck Demonfailth and his usual drolling hatred of them. He's not known for his taste.

Yeah, they were great on those prime 80's albums, but of course it took a ballad to get any real commercial success, as was the case with much of the genre back then.

Whatever you may think of Werman, he spun this struggling bar band into platinum.

In a bar/small venue they are great! Half the "show" is the interaction between frontman Steve Whiteman and the audience. Some bands just don't translate to a big stage.

They also had 2.5 good songs on that release!

Really good solid band. I like all their releases except their last one.

Even their 1995 album show business was what you would expect from a Kix album.

Best album is probably the debut. The remastered version of blow my fuse is also great. Glad they got some success with that one.

Never saw them live. :(

Kix had few decent songs for their genre. But when I first came across them, I was very, very surprised that they actually had some kind of commercial success and few songs you could call some...kind of hits.

Then I saw them live in New York, I would say 2009-ish. And while they were ok, I still could not figure the appeal.

I never ever saw any articles of the band in magazines back in the day and to this day never heard any of their songs on the radio. I think it is safe to say they were / are nonexistent in Europe. Did they ever play any shows outside the North America during their heyday?

This. Their wheelhouse was 500 seat theatres and "agora ballroom" type places. Didn't they take out ads for the debut album in Hit Parader and Circus way back in the day?

I first saw them on USA Network on some Live Concert program they showed (and repeated) after school in the mid 80s. They were a tight live band.

In my opinion, they have enough songs for a decent greatest hits:
Cool Kids
Body Talk
Midnight Dynamite
Cold Blood
Get It While It's Hot
Don't Close Your Eyes
Blow My Fuse
Girl Money
Tear Down The Walls
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah (Live)

If anything, I find them to be overrated on here. A couple good songs and that’s it. I also saw both Kix and Poison back in the day and I didn’t see the comparisons. Bert owed far more to Steven Tyler, David Lee Roth and Vince Neil than he ever did to SW, who was mostly a blonde, poor man’s Steven Tyler anyway.

Kix’s “dynamite” schtick was also cheesy. They also plagiarised the shit out of AC/DC. So it’s rich that fans are claiming Poison weren’t original when Kix was the furthest thing from it.

At the end of the day, they just didn’t have the songs. Nikki Sixx is very lucky he could write some songs. Without that lucky skill, Motley Blew would’ve been Kix.

Hopefully somewhere out there in some parallel universe that is the case.

Mildly. I like the first one. I wouldn’t say they should’ve been the next big thing.

Always loved their live, in your face guitars. Ronnie was a GREAT plug a Les Paul into a Marshall player.

Why don't you just go look for live Kix videos on YouTube and then listen to their albums and decide for yourself?

KIX and Tesla put on some of the best show on MORC. The earlier Tesla Sail Away shows around sunset were the best.

Headlining M3 for x-amount of years was a great way to go out. They absolutely killed it every time I saw them. Not one of my favorite bands but they were awesome live.

I saw them at the Country Club in '85, and they were nothing short of fantastic. Their guitar player Brian Forsythe might have been the coolest motherfucker I had ever seen...equal parts Keith Richards, Nikki Sixx and Johnny Thunders.

They had EVERY aspect of their show super controlled and tight. There were cues in the lighting that were so spot-on that I have never seen anyone do since, like a complete momentary blackout on stage at the same moment they hit Steve Whiteman's head with a spotlight, so he was all that was visible in the room...but just for a second, then: Bam: Lights back up.

The sound was similarly well done, with delays on specific words and shit. Just perfection overall.

Amazing energy, great music. I think that if their singer wasn't such a goober, they would have been giant.

That said, he was a great singer and frontman...just, you know...a goober.

Saw them once at Rocklahoma 2008 , they were nothing short of fantastic !

Incredible show during a warm summer rain that made it even better . Like a huge wet t-shirt contest with 20 k people and so many hotties . Have amazing photos from that day and the whole week as it was the only festival that was 5 days ! Had VIP seats and camping, so all food and Beer was included. A week those that were there, will never forget \m/

One great KIX song that has not been mentioned is : Atomic Bombs

The whole first Kix album is great. The sound is super tight and punchy and clean, which makes perfect sense when you find out that it is on of the records that Tom Allom produced between British Steel and Screaming for Vengeance.

I really like Midnight Dynamite too, but it is a different kind of thing.

Typical overrated Metal Sludge band. If they'd have sold millions and had been a success people here would be trashing then.

Blow my Fuse went platinum. Wednesday 13 fan.

I feel like Wednesday 13 would probably fit the model better.
