What is the best song written to “get back” at a current or former member of the band?
My pick would be “Silly Little Love Songs” by Paul McCartney.
Pretty much a big fuck you to Lennon.

Slaughter’s “Burnin’ Bridges”, of course.

A good pop example would be "Time (Clock of the Heart)" by Culture Club

I don’t know if it’s the best, but I think “Sorry” from Chinese Democracy deserves a mention here.

My favorite thing about it is it’s such a good song that Slash ended up playing it several times after he rejoined the band!

Not towards anyone in the band, but "5 Year Plan" by D.R.I. fits & it's excellent.

Megadeth's "Liar" was supposedly directed at former Chris Poland for pawning their equipment for drugs.
GZR's "Giving up the Ghost" was supposedly Geezer Butler directing that at Tony Iommi for continuing Sabbath with endless lineups.

The other "Liar" by Yngwie was directed at Marcel Jacob (RIP). Marre supposedly slept with Yngwie's girlfriend when on tour. The song also claims he stole Yngwie's "art" and passed it off as his own. Not sure what he refers to, maybe the old Powerhouse / Rising Force demos as this was 1986, before Marre wrote Total Control for John Norum.

Harrison was the first one of the Beatles to write diss songs to the other members, while he was still in The Beatles.
"It's Only a Northern Song" was a slam at Northern Songs LTD, of which John and Paul held 30% shares, with George and RIngo only having 1.6 shares each. George wrote the song to complain that it didn't matter what he did because the bulk of the money was going to other people.

It's a weird song, but I have always liked it for that.

"I Me Mine" is also a slam on John and Paul. George wrote it comparing his return to working with them versus others he had recently collaborated with.

Not to mention Silly Love Songs went to #1 on the charts for several weeks. John's "How Do You Sleep?" is the opposite and makes it ineffective. I think that was written in response to John thinking a line from Paul's "Too Many People" was about him.
