Albert Collins…any fans here?

Post by p86 »

Anyone here into Albert Collins music? I just discovered him today…this stuff is awesome. I started with I Ain’t Drunk and went from there. Just listened to a couple albums today and am blown away at how good those sound sonically.

Eh. I wanted to like him during that whole late 80s Alligator thing, but he just didn't do it for me. Agree that I Ain't Drunk is fun tho.

I spent a couple of days with him when he was part of a show the artist I worked for put together.
He was a pretty funny guy. He got my boss (who didn't drink much) wasted and kept him up all night playing poker the day before the gig.
At the gig, the climax was about a dozen people playing "Not Fade Away," a three chord song. While trying to play along, he walked over to me and said, "I just don't GET this rock & roll shit!"
He tuned his guitar to an open F minor chord and used a capo.

Good guitar player with a distinctive voice. Fun tunes. Lightnin' Hopkins was his cousin and early influence.
