One of my genre favorites.

Or is this the wrong site for German thrash metal appreciation?

I don't mind a little "ass play", but definitely have some limits.

The first album was funny/great, but then they got legit with Persecution Mania and it kicked compete ass. I love old German thrash like Sodom and Destruction. It was a big influence on my riff writing. I argue all the time with a Euro fan/friend who claims there was nothing special or unique about German thrash and I try to explain the cool noodly riffs and the big choruses, etc. Helloween were a fave of mine too before they went full-Maiden and got popular. Can we count Coroner? Switzerland is close enough, right? But then we’d have to throw in Celtic Frost (legend). Coroner always sounded way more German though. and of course Kreator who actually continued to get better and better in the later years. I also loved the early pre-pirate Running Wild albums.

This probably explains why my old band was/is more popular in Germany than anywhere else.

Meh...I used to have Persecution Mania on CD...got tired of it. I'm more of a Destruction/Kreator fan. As for Tankard, they're just silly.

Voila, I think I've covered the big 4. Apparently they all just did a gig together or will be in the near future, in Germany. And I'll be seeing Kreator at the end of the year with Testament and Anthrax.

I was always more of a Gomorrah guy.

They're good, but Kreator is definitely the best of the German thrash bands.

I like Kreator, but to my ears they suffer similarly to the way Overkill does because of Mille’s voice. I just don’t like it.

First sing I ever heard by Sodom and still love it.

Kreator is the only German metal band that I actually like. All the rest of them like Destruction, Sodom etc just plain suck.

Bad production and bad vocals. The music is okay but everything else about those bands make them unlistenable.

Thanks for the link. Apparently it's also called buggery. Which sounds dirtier. I'm going to start using that.
