Dez Dickerson was in The Revolution, I believe. Now he's a pastor or something.
The Time: Jerome something.

Jerome Benton
Jesse Johnson Jr.
Monte Moir
Jimmy Jam
Terry Lewis

I pledge allegiance to The Time.

BTW, "Jamie Starr" was Prince. Most of their 1st 2 records were just Prince and Morris Day.

It's absolutely idiotic to contend Zep weren't A-listers in the 1970s.

Revolution:

Brown Marc
Bobby Z
Dr. Fink

I think that covers everyone not already mentioned. Both these entries were unaided by wiki or AI.

The Cult Jam with Full Force
The Revolution (other than Wendy and Lisa)
The New Power Generation
The Time (Morris Day)

Off top of my head:

Cult Jam - Lisa Lisa (not sure of her real last name)

The Revolution - Brown Mark, Bobby Z, Dez Dickerson (at times), Dr. Fink (Matt Fink)

The New Power Generation - Sonny T, Michael Bland, Tommy Barbarella, Levi Seacer, Jr.

The Time - Jesse Johnson, Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis

How so? He wrote those songs and also largely played and produced them. Later The Time, like Pandemonium, had more of the others.

Yeah I don't entirely get what went on there. They were a great band, better than Prince's. The rivalry between them was real, albeit friendlier IRL than in Purple Rain.

I think The Artist was what he was, a control freak who wanted to write and produce his own music, and he viewed a band as a necessary evil for live performance. He treated his own guys the same way.

The Cult Jam with Full Force
The Revolution (other than Wendy and Lisa)
The New Power Generation
The Time (Morris Day)
Full Force - the twins from house party. Don't know their names. They sang "Temporary Love Thing"
Revolution - Mark Brown, Dr. Fink, Wendy, Lisa, Bobby Z
New Power Generation - Lets see Rosie Gains(?) with the huge voice. Miko... Levi.... Cat Glover... Wendy's sister. The big fat guy with the African hat on drums.
The Time - Jimmy and Terry ($$$$ producers), Jellybean who wrote some songs for Janet Jackson. Jessie used to be on lead guitar, now Tori my man from Tulsa, Oklahoma who has a wild signature Schecter Strat.

Didn't read the responses - I had all these records.

Current guitarist of The Time, Tori, used to own a bar in Tulsa with live music. Jellybean came and sat in a few times. These are not just trivia questions to me! 8)

Fun Fact: I saw Dez Dickerson's solo band open for Billy Idol in Madison Wisconsin... guessing it was 1984 or 1985.

I was in HS (80-84) when 1999 was released and thought Dez had a cool look. As far as I know, the only vocals I've heard him on was "when I woke up this mornin coulda sworn it was judgement day." I have never heard him play the guitar or bass aside from in the mix of a Prince song.

His band got a spot in Purple Rain. They were terrible. He was caught up in that Japanese headband thing that was cool for about 6 months.

Hahaha. I had one of those when I was a freshman/sophomore in high school because of Dez. I'd wear it under my football helmet. Thinking about it 40 years on, it still embarrasses me.

Yep, I had forgotten. Really don't listen to the deep cuts on 1999 very often. Listen to The Time quite a bit more.

How bad was that band that at the height of Prince-mania they couldn't get a record deal?

I actually discovered this song from his 1988 solo album within the past year or so. Not bad for new jack swing era R&B:

Brownmark - "Next Time"

Hard to believe that a band called the Modernaires whose single was "Modernaire" wasn't more successful.
