My all time favorite...Lynch on Under Lock And Key.

Besides that much of David Gilmour's work would qualify. I'd say he is THE master of great tone. Just listen to the solos on Comfortably Numb and Time. Besides the amazingly tasteful and restrained playing just listen to how it sounds. It's fucking beautiful!

So many myths are out there about guitar tone. Guitar makers still talk about tonewoods on sold body electrics to this day.

Biggest thing I’ve found as I get older is that a ton of distortion sounds like shit in a mix.
Also, quit scooping the mids.

That's because wood does make a difference. Play an all mahogany Les Paul Custom reissue next to one with the mahogany/maple top and hear it for yourself. If you can't tell the difference then you have hearing issues

You've done blind tests playing two guitars made of different woods with the same pickups in the same amp? There are so many more things that effect the tone and having a mahogany body is low on the list. There's your speaker, amp, EQ settings, pickups.

This is what aging does to guitarists. Every year, I am cleaner and have more mids.

I actually love Rick’s videos. His “what makes this song great?” series is some if my favorite content in all of cyberspace. Amazing breakdowns.

The ultimate guide to tone is this: your guitar needs to sound fucking thin. Thin as a piece of paper. Like, unlistenably, ear splittingly, thin and sharp.

For rock stars or bands that tour with their own sound guy... they can set everything to noon (or 11). Their sound guy will take that big tone and EQ it just right.

For everyone playing bars and clubs? Paper thin. It will float majestically on top of the bass and drum frequencies and make you sound like god himself.

A "warm", "full" guitar tone? More often than not, not ones gonna make out a note youre playing. Will just get lost in the mix.

Back For The Attack has absolutely incredible tone as well, but it isn't quite as unique as ULaK. Under Lock And Key has that slight Rockman chorus sound that I like. I prefer Back For The Attack as an album though.
