New Steeler Video (Ron Keel)
I remember a friend having the Steeler record back around 1986/87 (I see the album came out in 83) and it had a young Swedish kid on guitar...Yngwie Malmsteen...
I remember having the Alacatrazz tape NPfRnR (loved it and still do) so I thought this was pretty cool...but it must have sucked or I would have asked my friend to make a tape of it...
Now Ron is back with new Steeler:

It's painful and cheesy...and the headset mic...he might as well be playing his keytar with it...
The whole appeal of Steeler was Yngwie...I wonder what his motivation was for resurrecting the name...

Wow, this came out of nowhere.
Not sure it's anything I'll need to hear again.
Would a Keel album/song not generate a bit more interest at this point? Still next to nothing, but Keel is way more known than Steeler.

That is unbelievably bad, even by Ron Keel standards.

Rik Fox has said Steeler was huge. Maybe not in sales. True. Attendance in LA? They outdrew Van Halen.the_man_incognito wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2024 2:46 pm I remember a friend having the Steeler record back around 1986/87 (I see the album came out in 83) and it had a young Swedish kid on guitar...Yngwie Malmsteen...

Not saying it's fantastic, but that video would have cost half a million in 1986
Re: New Steeler Video (Ron Keel)
What happened with the country/southern rock stuff he was doing? Was that just a quick stint? I remember thinking that covers album he did a few years ago was pretty decent. Had a good tracklist, anyway. Talk about full circle resurrecting Steeler.
*I kinda want a new screenname. Seriously. I barely watch racing anymore.
Re: New Steeler Video (Ron Keel)
So true. Waaaay off topic, but I used to be amazed how much they spent on some pretty lame videos.NineteenEightyFour wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2024 7:57 pm Not saying it's fantastic, but that video would have cost half a million in 1986
Guess it also shows the power of our camera phones today

Re: New Steeler Video (Ron Keel)
I had the 2-3 KEEL CD's. Pretty bad overall. There were some good tracks though. Steeler? Bought it for Malmsteen. It was cool listening to him at a young age. The songs? Shit. No Malmsteen, it was a 2/10 release.

I’ve tried to get into Keel, but the songs just aren’t there, even though the sound was good. I do like that Ron makes an effort to keep creating stuff. His career is a little hard to follow because there’s Keel, Ron Keel Band, Ron Keel solo, and Steeler now again. He does come out with catchy stuff sometimes and makes an effort with the videos.
Re: New Steeler Video (Ron Keel)
rik fox is in that video. he will be out of the band before they do any shows probably. He couldn't stay in any band in the 80's but has gladly blamed everyone else because he got fired/quit. He is also a smart*ss jerk on his facebook page. I am one of the proud that was banned by him by simply trying to help him.

He's clearly spent hours and hours writing his own wikipedia entry: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rik_Foxkeyofgee wrote: ↑Mon Nov 18, 2024 5:27 am rik fox is in that video. he will be out of the band before they do any shows probably. He lists all the jam nights he's participated in and which songs he performed.

he should have been a singer, he is so full of himself.FreddyFender wrote: ↑Mon Nov 18, 2024 7:07 amHe's clearly spent hours and hours writing his own wikipedia entry: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rik_Foxkeyofgee wrote: ↑Mon Nov 18, 2024 5:27 am rik fox is in that video. he will be out of the band before they do any shows probably. Re: New Steeler Video (Ron Keel)
After I made the original post, I went and checked out the Steeler album...oophf...terrible even by early metal standards. As you mentioned, Yngwie is the highlight and you can hear the basic blue print of his playing. And by contrast Alcatrazz's NPfRnR came out the same year and it's far beyond this turd in terms of songwriting and production.DemonFilth2001 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2024 12:18 pmI had the 2-3 KEEL CD's.
