Agree. Even better having Friday off. Perfect four day weekend.

For a couple of decades, it seemed like I was always away from home on holidays and birthdays.

I was working for a band that played in my hometown the night before Thanksgiving. We had the holiday off, and I wanted to spend it with my family, but I was instructed to drive the backline truck 800 miles to the next town the band would play. When I got there, I found out that the band decided to spend Thanksgiving in MY town, and I could have stayed after all.

I heard a sportscaster on a rant today about not using the lumpy cranberry sauce with pieces in it. He said the one that comes out of the can is even ribbed for your pleasure.

Funny Thanksgiving memory…
circa 1981, my aunt’s very small house, whole extended family shoehorned around a table in the living room. Old school style, pre-McMansions.

My aunt was notoriously gross and a sloppy (read: dirty) cook. My dad had an equally notoriously queasy stomach. My portly cousin with an iron stomach who still eats raw hotdogs out the fridge is seated right next to my dad, shoulder to shoulder.

Everyone is served and has just started eating. My cousin takes a heaping forkful of stuffing into her mouth before pausing briefly with a disgusted look on her face while she pulls from between her lips a huge turkey bone. It was the stuffing that was cooked inside the turkey cavity and then scraped out onto a serving dish.

My dad sees this, and in full panic mode he jumps up out of his chair and stumbles to the bathroom holding back the puke in his mouth. The bathroom was right off the living room (read: right next to the dinner table), so the ensuing vomiting and groaning might as well have been in stereo. He was still pretty much in the same room as the rest of us.

He had to have been in there 30 minutes heaving his guts in the toilet. Violently ralphing and flushing. It was fuckin’ hilarious and for as long as he was upchucking, I was laughing uncontrollably. I couldn’t stop laughing.

Everyone else was just trying to pretend nothing unusual was happening and kept eating and chatting… just completely ignoring the hospital job my aunt’s cooking had done to someone at the very same table.

God my family is dysfunctional. Any outside observer would have thought it was lunatic asylum.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I would like to apologize to any Sludgers I've been rude with this year. I enjoy all your company.


As for my Thanksgiving I'm just glad I'm not working I usually am

That's probably true.
My kids love the canned cranberry sauce. And don't get me wrong, I love it too. But I've been making it from scratch for several years, and now that they are adults, they are fine with the lumpy stuff.

I took Tuesday off too, so it's five days for me!

Off Friday too! Friday is always my day off and Sunday because we are closed but it’s nice having 2 days off in a row! Plus Friday is my birthday!

We don't have Thanksgiving here, so apart from turkey I have no associations with it.
Unlike Halloween and Black Friday, Thanksgiving did not blow over to Europe.

40 years ago today. My mom hosted Thanksgiving.
My grandma and all my aunts were there. 15 yr old me and my cousins smoked some pot in my room.
I had a cement Buddah garden statue in my room wearing sunglasses and had taped a cigarette to its mouth. My cousins thought that was the coolest....Then it started...WHAT ARE U ALL DOING? WE KNOW WHAT THAT SMELL IS!. My aunt and mom were notorious partiers back in the day. Now it was ok for them back then but not us My aunt came up and banged on the door....I HOPE YOU ARE HAPPY YOU ALL RUINED THANKSGIVING! Well the munchies kicked in and I Volunteered to go down stairs first. My grandmother was at the table laughing her ass off. Thats when we knew it was ok as grandma basically told them they pulled the same shit when they were our age. My cousins came down and we ate everything not nailed down.
Im going to grandmas today. She is 95 and sharp as a tack. Im gonna bring this story up if she doesnt.
