I expected him to be drunk or something. Seems pretty calm and rational to me 🤷

Grief sucks. Really appreciate what Billy Bob Thornton said in the middle of this.

That was astounding.
He’s not messed up at all.
Thanks for posting.

This interview is amazing. I've listened to VH since the '70s and I'm not sure I ever heard Alex talk before. he always presented like the "caveman" of the band. He is very sharp and articulate. This was a great watch.

Messed up? He's sober and incredibly well-grounded. Fantastic interview.

Terrific interview. A bit of a lisp there. Al is breaking in some new teeth.

Very cool. On a side note, it’s still unbelievable to me how much alcohol was involved in their everyday lives and memories. Al talks about almost every funny or significant moment with, “and then we had a few beers”. He says his father, his father’s brothers, his father’s father, and his father’s grandfather all died of alcoholism. Very shocked that Al was the only one that made it out, but happy for him.

Anderson messed up by not getting Alex's side on the accusations that guy who has the fake Ukranian girlfriend made about him firing his roadie/childhood friend.

Excellent interview, and I don't see Alex being messed up at all. Not on drugs/alcohol, and not pyschologically. He seems to be very level headed and is coping with the grief from losing his partner of 60ish years. My takeaway is that Alex is in a good place overall.

Alex is 71 years old. He's officially been a senior citizen for 6 years.

He appears to be clear-minded and present.

I can't say that I enjoyed the interview, it seemed a little morbid to me. I would have preferred to see him speak of the good times they had instead of Eddie's death.

The podcast is about grief, and how people deal with it.
When it finished playing it went straight into Alex talking to a different person, started much more upbeat.

Another great thread and a wonderful interview.

Thanks a lot for the link!

I concur with your assessment of psychological disfigurement. Emotionally unstable and weak minded are incapable of swiftly absorbing and letting go. Inevitability of death is a catalyst for profound beauty.

On the other hand, a perceived stoicism from AVH could adversely affect his book sales. He might be amplifying his emotions through exaggerated grief to connect with readers and boost book sales.

Definitely. He's playing the "I miss Ed" angle all the way.

It's not an unreasonable assumption , though.

It was odd how he was bashing Ed for substance abuse when he was just as pickled as he was, and it wasn't the drugs that did him in anyway, it was the tabacky.

We will never know what exactly caused his throat cancer but the blow might have contributed. I heard that Sammy Davis Jr got throat cancer from the shit they were cutting his cocaine with. Same thing could have happened to Ed. Who knows?

I agree, but the show was about grief anyway.
Also, it seems to me the book is being marketed as a book about losing someone near.
So Alex might also just be playing into that.

Yes thats what he claims. Michael Douglas claims the same thing as well. I never knew it was a thang. Is it for reelz?

Surely you aren't suggesting that he does not miss his brother . . .
