UnitedHealthcare CEO Murder Cops Have Killer on Camera ... Used Handgun with Silencer

NYPD has clear footage of the killer who opened fire on UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in Midtown Manhattan ... but only from behind the suspect.

Cops released the surveillance images captured Wednesday morning outside the Hilton hotel on 6th Ave and 54th Street ... and it shows 50-year-old Thompson strolling into the hotel by himself around 6:45 AM. The shooter walks up behind him, draws a handgun and starts shooting from less than 10 feet away.

It appears the suspect fired his weapon, which was fitted with a silencer, at least 3 times ... before fleeing into an alleyway on the other side of the street. Police say he made his getaway on a bicycle, which was captured on a different surveillance camera, and rode into Central Park ... just a few blocks away.

Witnesses have said the cold-blooded killer was masked, and had been waiting outside the hotel for at least several minutes before Thompson arrived. The footage seems to support NYPD's theory that this was a targeted hit.

The challenge for police is none of the surveillance images they've released have a clear view of the suspect's face -- he was wearing a hoodie with a gray backpack -- and the footage does not include any audio.

Cops say they recovered 3 9-millimeter rounds and shell casings from the crime scene. They're offering a $10,000 reward for any info leading to the suspect's arrest and conviction -- while also working with UnitedHealthcare to figure out a possible motive ... including any recent threats or disgruntled ex-employees of the health insurance giant.

Thompson was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Could be a long list of suspects. United Healthcare is known for systematically denying care for patients while they rake in millions in profit.

In addition to that there's this:

UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was accused of insider trading and fraud before he was assassinated on Wednesday in Manhattan.

Last year the DoJ launched a probe into whether the private company of the nation's biggest insurer, led by Thompson, was unfairly restricting competitors and running a monopoly.

Then in October, the City of Hollywood Firefighters’ Pension Fund in May initiated a complaint against the company against Thompson and other executives, accusing the CEO of failing to tell investors about the federal probe before he unloaded over 31 percent of his stock, taking in $15.1 million in proceeds.

In legal documents, investigators said that Thompson and other company execs sold over $117 million worth of UnitedHealth common stock during the four-month period when insiders knew about the federal antitrust investigation but the public did not.

The City of Hollywood Firefighters' Pension Fund had filed a similar complaint in May against UnitedHealth, proposing a shareholder class action suit.

The Wall Street Journal reported in February that federal investigators had been interviewing healthcare industry representatives in sectors where UnitedHealth competes, including doctor groups.

Investigators have asked about issues including certain relationships between the company's UnitedHealthcare insurance unit and its Optum health services arm, which owns physician groups, among other assets.

Thankfully I'm not under the US healthcare system but everything I've read so far about the killing means it's more likely to be a guy who made an application to United Healthcare but they turned it down "for the lolz", which seems to be their default way of doing business, or that happened to a close family member.

Will be interesting who the shooter ends up being as the confusing thing is they seemed to know what they were doing as even when the gun jammed they seemed proficient in fixing that pretty quickly. My guess is it's a hitman(I know it sounds crazy)but I don't think a lone wolf upset former customer would have those type of gun skills. Someone suggested it might have been a hired Mossad agent which I guess fits my theory.

My money is on the dude gets caught by Sunday night.

Just read that CEO dude was about to be facing a DOJ probe, so I'm thinking someone didn't want him to talk. Is this one of those Clinton did it things?

I kinda am trolling, but at the same time I’m kinda not judging by some of the reactions I’ve seen to this guy’s murder, which were generally celebratory in an “eat the rich” kind of way.

Reported this morning:

"As the manhunt continues for the shooter who gunned down Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare in Manhattan on Wednesday morning, police are revealing shell casings left at the scene were inscribed with the words "deny," "defend," and "depose." NBC’s Stephanie Gosk reports for TODAY."

The most likely scenarios are either a disgruntled customer who was denied coverage or one of their loved ones was... or possibly an investor looking to exact their own revenge for perceived financial fraud.

There are obvious motives here that don't require conspiracies.... JFC.

Clearing a gun jam on a range isn't a big deal, but probably a little harder to do when you're in the middle of murdering somebody on a street in Midtown Manhattan when you have a very small window to kill your target and make an escape. I'm not convinced the shooter is a hitman. At that range, a pro should have been able to put all his shots into the victim's head and/or torso, but one shot supposedly hit the victim in the leg. Having said that, waiting for the victim at the right time and place, shooting him, running to a waiting bike, having his face covered, carry a backpack with possible change of clothes, silencer, etc. all suggest a lot of careful planning.

Right, and a hitman wouldn't wait til his target was 20 ft away to shoot either.

No expert on hitmen, but facemask or not I find it hard to believe a "professional" would have have bought protein bars and coffee at Starbucks and then did the hit in broad daylight with plenty of witnesses.

The guy who killed him did this because of something personal.

Meanwhile, the NYPD is investigating engravings — which appear to include the words “deny,” “depose” and “defend” — found on live rounds and shell casings left behind by the masked assassin after he shot Thompson, according to sources.

The words are eerily similar to a 2010 book condemning the insurance business, titled “Delay, Deny, Defend: Why insurance companies don’t pay claims and what you can do about it.”
