That's weird? I have no idea how this shit works but do you have to get permission to include pictures of people to use in your book? Would that be the case?

Tommy (or his people) would no way object to the pic being used so that's not it. My guess is that pic Tommy is clearly the focal point. Like the lead singer in a band photo, in the middle, blonde and out front. Removing him makes Paul the focal point based on his bright clothes. Plus, the image now fits better. I don't disagree with the decision.

I like that the Photoshop hack left in whatever those stripes are between Lennox's and Shaw's heads and made it seem like a pattern on Zappa's shirt instead

This photo tells me that Paul thinks he's above Tommy Shaw and considers himself more on a "peer" level with the others or at the very least wanted to give the reader the impression that Warhol, Lennox and Zappa actually respected him.

Wikipedia has Studio 54 as open - with breaks - from 1977 to 1989. Lennox toured and released three albums with The Tourists in 79-80 so at least somewhat known during peak Studio 54, and made it big with Eurythmics in 83. Still, I agree that it looks like 83-84 Paul there and not 79-80 when he hung out at Studio 54.

I was basing it on any "Studio 54" picture being from the heyday that ended early 1980 IIRC. I'm not sure Lennox was famous enough prior to the Eurythmics to end up in a pic like that. It looks like the pic is confirmed to be about 1985 regardless.
