I feel pretty good. I'm 48 and have been strung out since my early 20's. So considering that I actually feel pretty darn good. But a big reason for that is probably due to me not having had a job since Clinton's last year of office. So my back is still in good shape and that is crucial. A lot of people that actually made something of themselves and decided not to be a loser like me are darn near crippled due to having spent a solid 20+ years bending over and lifting heavy shit. Like people in construction and trades like that. Doing that kind of work takes a major toll on the body and my hat is off to those who do it day in and day out.
Last July I finally decided to at least take a break from the heroin/fentanyl and got on a methadone program which has been a godsend. It is so nice to not have that constant worry of figuring out how you are going to come up with money and once you do that then find somebody who has decent stuff while in the meantime you are feeling less and less well which soon becomes getting more and more sick. Just knowing that you aren't going to sleep again until you can find something. Waking up everyday is so depressing when you are caught up in that cycle. Especially if you are having a cool dream. You wake up and it's just like "goddamn it another day of this."
Living like that takes a huge mental toll on you after a while. I'm actually one of the fortunate ones. I've been blessed by having two of the greatest parents in the world. They obviously are disappointed in the path I chose, but I've always had a decent place to live and vehicle to drive. Many, many people don't have that. So when I get to feeling sorry for myself I think about how many other people are out there who are better people than I am who have had terrible things happen to them through no fault of their own and are really struggling. When I think about that I feel like a real prick for ever even thinking about pouting or feeling bad for myself.
Also, this place and you guys always cheer me up too. If I ever need to laugh I know that I can come here and without fail within a couple minutes one of you guys will have me at the very least chuckling and more often than not laughing my ass off. So I Thank You all for that and I thank the CEO for keeping the lights on. Sorry for such a long-winded response. I really admire how people here are able to speak their mind and get their point across in a few sentences whereas almost every single post I've made is minimum a couple of paragraphs. I need to work on that. For example in this thread instead of writing a book I could've accomplished the same thing by saying "I feel pretty good."
Anyways, Thank You All! I hope you all have a great Christmas & New Years!

Pretty good for the most part in a managed expectations kind of way. Life still has its ups and downs but I had a lot more downs than ups before I turned 40. These days, I'm in a pretty good spot and at 52 have the perspective to enjoy the good parts while they're happening.
