Not a FM fan, but I know songs like The Chain, Gold Dust Woman, Rhiannon, Go Your Own Way, etc.
What you listed is exactly none of them. That could be part of it.

Yep. Too experimental and a stupid cover as well.

It didn't exactly bomb since it still went 4x platinum, and the title track and "Sara" were still both pretty huge hits for them, but it was just a significant enough drop in sales compared to Rumours for the record company to consider it a failure. Then again, a double album for them at that point was a bit much, wasn't it?

It followed up one of, if not, the greatest album of all time. Just about anything would have been considered a disappointment. That being said, I love the album Tusk. There's some great Lindsey material on there.

I was a huge FM fan for many years (Stevie mainly) and TUSK is just a bloated double album without many really good songs on it. It’s as simple as that. The ‘75 S/T album and Rumours were overflowing with really strong material from all of the writers/singers in the band. TUSK might have worked as a single album, but the weak stuff drug the whole thing down. It does have a fee great tunes, but not enough to make Lindsey’s vanity project worth the effort, IMO.

The problem with Tusk is the problem FM has had for most of it's career - Buckingham is a genius, but he's a goddamn nutcase.
Buckingham fell for the old "Hey what if I stop doing what I'm good at and just write songs that sound like a mix of The Beach Boys and My Sharona?" Happens to a lot of the greats.
If you deleted all of Lindsay's songs, you'd have a listenable FM album. Boring, but decent.
Over & Over
Think About Me
Sara
Storms
Angel
Sisters of the Moon
Brown Eyes
Never Make Me Cry
Honey Hi
Beautiful Child
Never Forget

Really not hard to figure out why.
It's twice as much music with half
as many great songs as Rumors.

F-M overexposure. Plus “Tusk” is a rather rotten song.
