Tangier

Post by MattleyCrue »

Why don’t we talk about Tangier enough?

Damn “You’re Not the Lovin Kind” is ripping on my AirPods right now!

"Ripcord", "On the Line", and "Stranded" are my favorite songs of theirs. Nothing special, but they're pretty good for bluesy Cinderella clones, which actually makes sense considering they're both Phiily bands...

Both albums are solid, but I think actually prefer the 2nd "Stranded".

I'm from Philly and I barely knew who they were... Mike LeCompt (singer from 2nd record) still treads the boards in the PA-NJ area.

That sounds like a ripoff/mashup of "Fallin' Apart At The Seams" and "Gypsy Road".

I prefer Four Winds.

Got a lil run in 91. Opened up the Cinderalla spring tour for awhile. Decent enough but was in that weird 90/91 era where SO MUCH material was coming out & it was overwhelming at times to keep up

I think I owned the debut. Bought this and Tora Tora around the same time. Neither was bad. Neither was good.

The first album, Four Winds, has its moments, the best of which is “On The Line”, which got some play on MTV.

The second album has a different lead singer, and nothing remarkable about it that I remember.

Same! From what I've heard, the original vocalist, Bill Mattson, was forced out because he was much older than the rest of the band and they brought in Mike LeCompt for the "Stranded" album in an attempt to be more commercial.

And Shark Island, Little Caesar, and Junkyard. We probably read about them in the same mag.

Honestly almost sounds like Little Caesar singer

For my ears, that was a mistake.

The first album wasn’t very consistent, songwise, but at least Mattson had sort of a low-key Paul Rodgers thing going on, vocally.

What I heard from the second album just sounded like another band from the era.

I have every one of those debuts in my collection. All pretty good, but if I had to choose the best one, I’d say Shark Island or Junkyard. SI’s “Paris Calling”, Junkyard’s “Hollywood” and “Simple Man”, and Tora Tora’s “Walkin’ Shoes” are all great hair tunes, anyway.

All solid bands, and adding Havana Black to the mix. Mattley, did you get into Havanna Black from Finland?

Because if we are talking about Tangier, that means we are NOT talking about Vinnie Vincent! And that is bad.

Don’t really like Havana Black. That band reminds me of Thunder

Good band, there's a book about them to be released here in February.

I didn’t know this, but according to their Wiki page, “On The Line” got as high as #67 on the billboard singles chart.

A quick reference check verifies this to be true:
