Holy shit, indeed, I'm shocked. This sucks, Souza's voice is perfect for them...though I do enjoy the first 2 Dukes records a lot.

I thought all was smooth with Souza now, he seemed to have admited that he was the problem the last time...

Seems like a weird move at this point. Try and make it work for the remaining 10 years left at best…going to drop a few notches on festival lineups/tours I would guess. Who knows what is going on behind the scenes though. Glad I saw them a bunch with Souza, no interest in Dukes. Souza was an acquired taste, but at least he wasn’t another generic tuff guy vocalist.

Wondering if it's political or simply a case of finances. Supposedly when he left before, one of the things he blamed was his day job as a carpenter.

I know when they dumped Rob before, he wasn't happy about it, to say the least, but I guess they've smoothed that out over the years.

Also makes me wonder if there's more Slayer dates coming that we don't know about yet...

So who "owns" the band? Are the members of "Exodus" not allowed to have day jobs? Going only on what I read, Exodus seems like a B level thrash band, but how much cash could they possibly generate on a yearly basis?

My guess is Hunting and Holt both own a piece of it, hence why Holt can go off and do whatever with Slayer when he wants.

But not making money is probably exactly the issue. The way Zetro talked about it before, the scheduling just didn't work out at the time for whatever jobs he was working on.

I never really bought that, though, seemed like an excuse, and there was also some report that I guess he didn't like the way security handled some kid at a gig right before he stepped down the last time.

Ok, I couldn't name or recall a single song by Exodus, but after checking out some various videos on youtube ...(I still can't recall anything, except the impression that they are completely underwhelming on every level....)

Anyway....... Dukes is total "amateur hour" compared to Zetro........

Zetro at least has a semi unique voice, where on the other hand, Dukes comes across like a (Tuesday night/VFW level) bar band singer, doing his best Phil Anselmo imitation.

I remember reading an interview where Zetro said he came back to Exodus because his kids were now grown so the only responsibility he had was to support himself (I assume he was single at the time of the interview). Now that his personal situation didn't include family, he could afford to come back into the band.
He had a good union gig (as someone already mentioned it may have been as a carpenter). If you've got family, the benefits a union job brings really helps the family a lot (medical, dental, etc.)

Sounds like he was making more at his union gig than being frontman for Exodus.

What caused his departure this time around is anyone's guess.

They should have hung in there with Zet. He is almost original member now that Ballof has been gone so long now. Bonded was the superior record but they got famous with Zet. They are probably doing pretty good on the loot since they've been consistently working. If they are smart, they will give Dukes a little run just to keep him happy and then patch up with Zet before recording an album.

First off, just take a second to appreciate partying too much for Exodus back in the 80s. He was basically Mustaine without a lick of actual musical talent.

Unfortunately, him dying young just simply wasn't surprising at all. I saw the Another Lesson in Violence tour at a small club, and that was just a super weird era for the band. Baloff was there like nothing had changed since 86, was wearing a hockey jersey and drunk before going on stage, but then Holt had short hair and was wearing cargo shorts and polo shirt. Probably for the best for the band that Zetro came back and did Tempo of the Damned, I can't imagine Baloff singing something like Throwing Down, and there's just no way they would have been successful beyond those small club shows.

Interesting. In thrash, you dont really need to have the best singers, at least back then (Belladonna notwithstanding, and I think Hetfield was underrated, even when he was young), but Exodus was the one that really seemed like they just let the roadie sing. It's one thing if you pick the least worst instrumentalist to do it, but to have a freestanding singer that cant sing? That shouldnt last long.

Gary added at the time: "If only you could have heard some of the shit that has come out of his fat pie hole over the last couple of years. Things like, 'Why does [bassist] Jack [Gibson] get the same money as me, who the hell is he anyway?' 'We should hire a bodyguard for South America,' 'If the fans want more than 12 songs out of me they should pay more money, they are getting their money's worth already!,' 'Why is Gary in the front of this promo picture, I should be in the front, that's copyright infringement!', (true! he said that!).
