I think all I've heard by the Deftones over the years is maybe 90 seconds

The one that started it all. Spreading gossip and insults since 1998.

Two minutes, tops.

People love them! Are there any jams that are like "You gotta at least hear this one"? A fan favorite, non-single, deep-ish cut, like "Mayonaise" by Smashing Pumpkins.

I gave them a try a while back but it's not my bag.

Some good instrumentation, but it just didn't stick to the wall for me.

Maybe I'll give it another try, maybe not

I'm not a fan and don't care much for them but I do like Change (In The House Of Flies) and their cover of Jealous Guy.

They did a great cover of "The Chauffer" on a crappy Duran Duran tribute album.

They’re a mixed bag for me. Some of it I love, some of it’s just too abstract and either goes over my head or I just don’t like it.

But anyway, your main two hit songs to intro the band for you are “My Own Summer” and “Diamond Eyes”.

For some cool deep cuts from there, you want “Tempest”, “Rosemary”, “Digital Bath”, “Elite”, “Entombed”, and “You’ve Seen The Butcher”.

If you don’t like any of those, Deftones are not for you.

"Diary Of A Madman"
"Aja"
"I’m Bad, I’m Nationwide”
“Sludge Factory”
"Locomotive"

Theyre not terrible. A few good songs. Definitely B-tier in that era, IMO.

I never got the hype around them… if there was any.

An acquaintance that also plays guitar was super into them, but I never got the appeal. He never got the appeal of the Swedish melodic death metal I was into, so fair play.

The genre seemed like a crossroads of jock music with a mix of music nerds. Some cool riffs here and there, but pretty boring for my tastes.

I think its their song, Change in the House of Lies - I didn't dislike it, but I would always change the station if it came on. The singer looks like a tool. Bass player looked cool though.

Garbage band. I've hated everything I've ever heard from them. They were on a package tour I went to once and I walked around while they were playing.

"My Own Summer" and "Change (In The House of Flies)" are cool tunes.

They suuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. Unlike High On Fire, which I can understand why people might be into, I have never found anything redeeming about the Deftones. Just completely lost on me.

High on Fire?? You allergic to Riffage?

I gave it a second try, but didn't get far.

I think it's the singer, too many whisper type vocals that are vaguely creepy, but don't go anywhere and seem low energy/boring.

I don't think even being super stoned would make it any better (unwilling to try BTW)

I did start wondering if this would be a good karaoke band for me since I can't sing, but I can whisper like a mofo. :D

Somehow it reminded just a little of Mike Muir when he does his quiet stuff, so I switched gears and jamming on ST now

Like I said, at least they I understand, even if it's not my thing. I saw them at probably the worst possible time, they somehow were in the middle of Holy Grail, Municipal Waste, Exodus and Anthrax about 12 years ago, and the audience was NOT having it. Plenty of people around me were booing them and flipping them off.

I saw that line up at HOB Anaheim, I think minus Exodus though (or I don't remember them at all)

High On Fire was good, not great, but Municipal Waste, holy sh*t!! I thought they were the best act of the night. Singer is kind of like someone crossbred Ozzy with Sam Kinison

Noted that you’re unwilling to try, but can confirm that blowing out some quality weed while “Rosemary” kicks in is a consistently divine experience.

Yeah, this is probably part of why High on Fire didn't go over well, following Municipal Waste that night was impossible. By the end of their set, you would have thought at least half the crowd was there to see them.

I guess my girlfriend likes the Deftones? She's 4 years younger than me, so she's nu-metal tolerant. I found a Korn t-shirt in her laundry--it was like finding a gun. I was shocked and perplexed.

Anyway, she played "Be Quiet and Drive" for me and it sounded like how I thought they sounded.

Not for me.
