Here is my EXPANDED (Music from) the ELDER reimagined as a full 2-Act Musical called "A WORLD WITHOUT HEROES" (not that there's anything wrong with that). Several months in the making (early retirement is sweet). The guys have invited me back on THREE SIDES OF THE COIN next week to discuss it in detail. I will do my best again to not them get a word in edgewise.
DETAILS:
I became a KISS fan in 1977 and got the ELDER the day it was released back in November of 1981. I had already gotten the 45 of "A World Without heroes" and "Dark Light" and had seen the photos of their new "look" in 16 Magazine. Unlike a lot of fans, I knew I was fascinated and excited about this "new" KISS and fell in love with the album. It grew to be almost an obsession of mine over the years and the ELDER has always been a favorite (not just KISS) album. It's a shame it was released at a time when KISS was at their lowest point because I think it is a great collection of songs with superb musicianship even if it always had an "unfinished" feel to it. I even named my very first band back in 1982 ODYSSEY after the song on this album. It is a tragedy that the band does not recognize the fantastic music that fills this album. It adds so much depth to their overall amazing catalog and should be celebrated.
When I decided to try my hand at a fan remix (there will be a more "straightforward" version as well) I thought it would be a great creative exercise to apply my decades of musical, songwriting and production experience to turn it into a full-on Broadway-style musical. For this I ended up using most of the unreleased demos and other material I could find to fill in the story and assemble what I hope is a full "odyssey" for other KISS fans.
I literally worked on it every single day for several months and there is just WAY too much to describe in this details section, so I urge everyone to look out for the THREE SIDES OF THE COIN Podcast I will be doing next week all about this process. Aside from the usual remixing and sometimes re-arranging, I also constructed several new versions of some of the original songs as well as some brand-new music from demoes and other album sources. There are several "guest" appearances by some very talented YouTubers who are all credited below.
I strongly urge everyone to please download the PDF file in the link below. It has a song-by-song (scene-by-scene) walk through explaining the entire "show" every step of the way and will help the whole thing make much better sense. One of the main goals of mine was to give Paul a much stronger role in the album since I feel like he was seriously underutilized on the original album whereas Gene really SHINES on it. I have used some of the unreleased material to help bring his fantastic "rock" voice (which is completely absent of the original) into the project. Depending on what is discussed on the Podcast, I may even do a video explaining everything I did from a more technical angle for those who are interested in that sort of thing.
I did not shoe-horn anything in and made everything fit the story line. This includes changing lyrics in some spots and even adding some new lyrics in a couple spots. Some unreleased material just didn't really work for the project, and some was only used in pieces as you'll hear when you listen to it.
I definitely recommend getting some headphones, opening that PDF and following along for the full experience. My hope is that existing Elder fans will appreciate this expanded version and that the rest will give this album another chance.

Please pass it on to any KISS fans you are accidentally friends with. My silly YouTube channel with all of my KISS remixes is almost at 2M clicks and it would be cool if this put it over.
